I need a 50 foot cable to make it from the tv to the Avr with a couple of feet on each end to spare so it's not tight. What brand name cable would be good for this application? Also, the cable will be run from the av closet, through the floor, though the crawl space, then back up through the floor to the tv. Would temperature affect anything with the cable?

Check out the new Redmere cables at Monoprice which are supposed to be good up to 65' without any external amplification, although you may also want to order an HDMI extender just in case from them with the same order. The 15' and greater Redmere cables are in-wall VW-1 rated.

JD hope this is an easy question, I have sure stumped myself this afternoon. I was trying to create private ip address's on all my equipment. Got all my computers and printers but the AVR 3313 has stumped me. From the reciever remote I enter network settings and get to IP adress, subnet, gateway but don't know how to enter the address. Say its 192.168.1.142. If I enter this there are zero's where the1 in between the 168 and 142. Is it entered as 100, 001 or 010. Or how do I make the zero's disappear?
Thanks,
Ed
It's a 1 .... which can be set from 001 up to 254.
I thought so maybe by trouble is from trying to do it from the front panel display, instead of firing up the projector. I just couldn't get the zero's to disappear like when you enter it from your computer. I fire up the projector shortly and give it a try. It was up and running on DHCP ,but I just had to mess with it as my wife would say.
Got it fixed JD. Thanks for the help. Much easier on screen than by display.

Any idea what the street price is for an AVR-1713?
That depends on what street you're shopping on. Most authorized resellers sell at full MSRP ($449) with a few selling at below that if you "call" them although price will fluctuate depending on availability. Give Electronics Expo and AVS Sales a "call" to find out their current price.
I know Batpig thought the 1713 and 2113 were best values, but does Fry's having the 1913 for $350 change rankings? Biggest difference to me is giving up XT but I like the option of 7.1
post #5111 of 7899
So excited, I just ordered my AVR-2113 and got a super sweet deal on it, not sure if I'm allowed to post who I bought from and what price, but it was a heck of a deal.
So glad I listened to some folks on here to call around, I ended up saving about $130 off MSRP!

just a quick question, i am not new to dlna with my tv and pc, but have never ever tried it on a receiver. if i get the denon avr1713 with dlna and i connect it to my network will i be able to play music from my pc to the receiver? like this.. i want to be able to play music from a web explorer for example mog.com to the receiver. only way i can do it now is i have a 30 ft hdmi cable running from pc to the receiver. would love to be able to do this via dlna wirelessly!
or will i only be able to play files i already have downloaded on my pc to the receiver.
thanks

I'm going to guess on this one, so hopefully someone who knows for sure speaks up and concurs, but I think its only going to work with media on the PC, the MOG or Rdio or Spotify won't work with DLNA, but the AirPlay feature should allow them to work fine, if you want to use an iPhone or iPad to stream those sources to it. At least I'm hoping thats what I can do when I get my 2113. Does the 1713 have the AirPlay support?

I gave up -- bought a $6 TOSLink cable from Amazon. Works great. Volume control on the TV remote even controls the AVR, and the sound is excellent. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol sounded great.

Next question: when listening to stereo music, what settings do people prefer? I always listened to 2 channel stereo on decent speakers and enjoyed it. I thought that DSP settings sounded artificial and I didn't care for them. Now I'm finding I really like the dts:neo6 music setting on the denon. (Bon Iver - For Emma is playing, and each instrument is in a distinct place. It just sounds great!)
The main reason I got an iPad was so I could use it as a music player with spotify through AirPlay. It's pretty awesome.

3313 owner here. Is there some setting I can apply to the receiver which tells is the following:

- If you are getting a 5.1 lossless signal, use that.
- Else if you are getting a 5.1 lossy signal, use that.
- Else if you see only stereo, use 2.1 and don't apply any fake surround DSP crap.

It seems like I'm toggling between surround modes an *awful lot*, and I wonder if I don't need to.

It should do that automatically. Surround modes are memorized by input signal and by source. Any time it gets a multichannel input (5.1) it should default to that so the only time you should ever really need to toggle is with stereo inputs. And then, once you set it once, it should remember what you set going forward.

Hi all,
I bought a 2113ci a couple weeks ago to replace an old JVC rx702D receiver that finally died. I have a simple setup... a Panasonic th50ph9uk plasma (also pretty old, but still in great shape), a Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Blueray player, and a Dish Network Hopper, everything connected via HDMI. I'm running a 7.1 setup with the original Energy Take 5's as my center, backs and surround backs, sub is an Energy 8.2s and front L/R's are Polk R15's (yeah I know... old, low-end stuff smile.gif ). The 2113ci has the latest firmware.

I haven't changed anything that I can recall since running the Audessy setup. While watching bluerays/dvd at a moderate volume level (mid-60's), the 2113 has shut itself down several times during fairly loud parts of the movie. I didn't think it was excessively loud. Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Mike-

Almost certainly a speaker wire issue if it's shutting down at that low of a volume. Check all the wires carefully for fraying, loose strands, etc.

As a test you can disconnect all the speaker wires from the receiver and try playing the same movie at a loud volume and see if it shuts down without any power draw.

On a side note, you should think about upgrading to a beefier center channel to more appropriately match the Polk R15 mains; the Take center is really tiny and is certainly a limiting factor in your HT performance. Many people don't realize that the center is as important as the FR/FL mains for multichannel content.
Double check the speaker wiring. A very thin strand of wire might have fallen between outputs on the receiver. Also inspect the cables and the connections on the speakers. If you have pets or rodents, the cables might have gotten chewed on and potential shorts became actual when you moved the cables around while connecting to the new receiver.

Thanks to both of you - I'll double check my wiring.
No pet rodents... two dogs though, and they do love to chew things smile.gif

Hello everyone. I have a work in pogress build which consists of an AVR-2113 and a Panasonic DMP-BDT110 Blu Ray player. I have recently purchased a couple of films which supposedly have DTS-HD 7.1 channel audio. These are the 2008 relese of Rambo and Hellboy II The Golden Army. What exactly should the didplay on my receiver read for the 7.1 audio? I'm not sure it's working correctly. The player and the receiver are connected via 3ft or less High speed HDMI cable fully rated for 4K so that should be ok right? I do want to add I have tested and have configured all 7 speakers and the sub in the in the receivers setup.

I can attest to these. I have a 50' one and it works fantastic delivering 3d signal to my panasonic ae-7000u projector.

If you want the receiver to do the decoding, so the HD audio type is shown on the receiver's front panel, you need to both turn on "bitstream" and turn off "mix" in the player. It's just a matter of where the audio is decoded, though, not any change in actual audio quality. Mix needs to be on (and thus LPCM fed to the receiver) if you want to hear the secondary audio provided with extras shown as "Picture-in-Picture", overlaying the main feature.

I will look at that again tonight. I know I saw bitstream in the player setup somewhere. I'll have to look again for the mix. Thank you for the help. Learning something new everyday it seems.

Hey guys, hoping I can get some help here. Purchased a Denon 1613 last night, got it all set up and tested out with no problems.... connected to it is my xbox, directvdvr, and apple tv. I initially had problems with pandora, but after some websearching I found that I needed to do a firmware update. done and done, connection to pandora successful.

My issue is now this... I don't recall if I tested out the apple tv before or after the firmware upgrade, but now I get only a green screen when I try to switch to it. I've used different ports, different cables, and same thing all around - I can hear but can't see. I plugged the apple tv directly into the tv with success, but not through the receiver.

Any ideas here? The apple tv is 3rd gen, picked it up yesterday as well.

I tried searching through the message boards, but had terrible luck. Thanks in advance
post #5129 of 7899
Google "appletv green screen" -- there are several issues you can explore in the resulting threads.
Yes, I have googled the issue with no luck. I also googled apple tv green screen denon and one result just basically said "yeah, there are problems with apple tv's and denon receivers" - but I haven't seen more than that one post stating this is common to denon. there aren't many search strings I haven't tried.

the green screen I get is a full blank green screen, not degraded video or anything like that. Seems the issue is common to the device going to sleep and then waking back up, but I've powered the apple tv off, unplugged, ran a system update... nothing works unless i plug directly to the TV. xbox hdmi video and directv hdmi video both work fine.

If you have some suggestions specific to the denon 1613 other than saying "look somewhere else" that would be very helpful... biggrin.gif
