The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX13 Model Owner's Thread & FAQ - Page 182

Exactly .. no real sense in buying the 1913 unless it is deeply discounted from the 2113CI.
I have run Audyssey multiple times since getting my 3313. Each time I have had a humming sound coming from the back of my tv (Panasonic st50 plasma). It starts as an on and off hum then dies down to a quiet hum which I think is normal operating noise. I called Panasonic and through troubleshooting we identified the hdmi plugging in to the tv is what was causing the noise. I imagine there is normal operating noise from the hdmi board but the intial loudness on and off hums were alarming at first. I didn't have this issue with Onkyo AVR. Any like experiences?

I have also been thinking about it for the last couple of weeks. My setup is a 5.1 setup with Infinity P363 fronts, Infinity PC351 center channel and Infinity bookshelfs as sorrounds. Also, a set of speakers on my patio for zone2. Although 1913 would suffice my needs, it lacks Multeq XT that 2113 has. And as many have pointed out on this forum, 2113 is a better value with only 70 bucks difference between 1913 and 2113 at MSRP.

But currently, the best deals on both are - 1913 for $329 and 2113 for $519, a difference of almost couple of hundred bucks. As I mentioned, my only criteria of looking at 2113 over 1913 is Multeq XT. So is it worth spending $190 more to get Multeq XT ?

Well, only you can really answer that for yourself, but I'd say yes, it was for me anyway.

Sorry, I did not put my question correctly. My question is, given my setup in a 17 x 12 room, will Multieq XT make a difference to the overall listening experience as compared to plain Multeq

jdsmoothie,

The Netgear unit is the XAVB-5004:

http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-XAVB5004-Powerline-Network-Adapter/dp/B004PA9PBQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360471812&sr=1-1&keywords=netgear+xavb5004

There is one known issue with this adaptor. When not in use it will go into "sleep" or "power save" mode and sometimes not wake up. Other users have had to
unplug replug or hit the reset button to wake it up. I have done the same but have a better solution.

My work around for that is to set the Denon IP stand by to always on and the Netgear never goes to sleep. There is also a lower priced
older Netgear on Amazon that doesn't seem to do this but has slower speed. Western Digital also has a 4 port unit that is rated well.

While some plasma sets have been known to hum or buzz what you describe seems a little unusual. Are you saying this only happens during
Audyssey calibrations or all the time? I have a Panny 50 GT30 plasma in the master bedroom and a Panny 42 GT30 plasma in another
bedroom and they have never made any noises like that. Both units are connected with HDMI.

I walked into my local A/V Store this morning with the intention of buying 2113ci but they didn't have any. So I walked out the door with a 2313ci for the same price of the 2113ci. 200 feet of 16 gauge speaker wire, 7 Polk speakers, one Martin Logan sub, two tries at the Audessy calibration, and a half hour of updating later, I'm enjoying some of the finest surround sound I've heard in my home.

I just wanted to say thank you to all involved in this thread, especially batpig for his Youtube videos that lead me here (many years since the last time I logged on) and jdsmoothie for all of the knowledgeable replies in this particular thread. I'm very happy with my purchase. Thanks all. smile.gif

I noticed it while running audyssey at the beginning. I was making a few passes to get the sub gain dialed in so I had the tv on. It was quiet but I was sitting 15 feet away. I took down my height speakers and noticed it again.

That much of a price difference makes it tougher to call, especially if the savings can be used elsewhere (whether in the home theater setup or elsewhere in the household or for family use). If you never expect to expand beyond 5.1 in your main zone and never want to add wireless headphones as Zone 2, the 1913 would likely be the more conservative choice for sure.

Great! Be sure to review the Audyssey 101/FAQ and Denon Troubleshooting Guides linked in my sig for more helpful information if you haven't already done so. smile.gif

Note a couple of features not often discussed that the 2313CI offers over the 2113CI are (1) the ability to enable a High Pass filter for Zone 2 speakers which can be helpful if using speakers that are not capable of low bass playback, and (2) the ability to set Zone 2 to "mono" when the desire is to use a single non-stereo speaker for Zone 2.

Thanks. I'll add that to the list. Prefer to add models that members have personal and positive experience using.

Any other owners want to add to the list of what router/bridge/other is being used that is working without issue?

Router
Cisco WRT-100
Cisco E3200
Linksys BEFSX41
Netgear N600 3400v2
Netgear WNDR-3800
Netgear WNDR4500
Airport Extreme

Bridge
Cisco WRT-54G
TRENDnet TEW-640MB
Airport Extreme
Airport Express
Linksys WET610N
Netgear WN2000RPT - 4 port

Other
Netgear XAVB5004 Powerline Network Adapter (4-port) (on AVR set Network Standby/IP Control to ON/Always ON)

Not 100% sure if this is your question, but here is what I have:

Airport Extreme (5th Gen) - connected to Cable Modem - Airport uses Ethernet out to Denon 1613
Airport Extreme (4th Gen) - set to extend WiFi network (no hardwired connection) - this Airport uses Ethernet out to Denon 1912

Both hook up to internet great. Both do Firmware updates no problem. Although the only other thing I do with my Denon and the internet is listen to Pandora.

1) what do I have to do to assure my AE isn't doing that?
2) is this done by unchecking the "Enable ipv6 connection sharing" box in osx lion, airport utility > AE > edit > Internet tab > internet options?
3) check
4) how is this done on the avr? Do i just manually chose an address in the setup menu?
5) that's a good idea. I might do that when i live on my own, but for now it's impossible. I live in my parents house, our pc downstairs is connected to the modem with a cable (doesn't have wifi), and another cable runs straight up into my room. Although we have wifi from the main modem, my denon and our country's equivalent of TIVo both need that cable in my room.

I might have overlooked something here - is there a device i can buy that i can plug into the ethernet port of my denon avr, that makes it able to connect to the wireless network? I think pioneer have something like that.

cheers

i meant MOUNTAIN lion... there are loads of topics on the internet about an older version of Airport utility 5.3 that makes it possible to alter more settings, but it seems that can't be installed on mountain lion.

Internet radio works great, but Airplay for some reason (both direct and through my Apple TV) seems to go weird on audio through my iPhone... Video works great, I have been streaming TV shows from my Mac to my Apple TV with no problems but with my iPhone, the audio randomly becomes garbled... Still trying to figure out that problem, but I am pretty sure that's my phone and not the receiver...

Yeah i used to use an Aexpress but i use that for other speakers now. I bought an avr with airplay so i wouldn't have to use that anymore smile.gif.

I never had a reason to do this myself, but I have seen YouTube videos claiming to show you how to install Airport utility 5.3 or 5.6 on Mountain Lion.

Well I'm at a loss on that one. It seems to be an issue with the Panny but if everything is functioning OK, and you already identified the issue with Panasonic support not much else to do.

Thanks for your reply jdsmoothie. I am leaning towards 2113 as I would use this receiver for at least few years and this would make a good choice.

I understand your point of expanding beyond 5.1, but when you say ***never want to add wireless headphones as Zone 2***, is it not a possibility with 1913? This might be a dumb question and your response would be highly appreciated.

Also, lastly, given my setup in a 17 x 12 room, will Multieq XT make a substantial difference to the overall listening experience as compared to plain Multeq?
A "slightly noticeable" difference would be more likely going from MultEQ to XT as "substantial" can really only be reserved when going from XT to XT32 (4311CI, 4520CI). Also, the 1913 has no analog audio output jacks nor Zone 2 pre-outs in which to connect a wireless headphone transmitter while the 2113CI does have Zone 2 pre-outs.
Does any one know if there is a file limitation on the number of music files one can access through the Denon 2313? I had everything working fine until I added the rest of my music files (50K worth) and now it doesn't seem to work or is it just taking a very long time for the Denon to load them.
Thanks, Mike
The only info I'm aware of is that listed on p. 37 in the 2313CI Owner's manual.

Thanks JDSmoothie,

I thought that I read that somewhere, but I looked and couldn't find that page until you gave the page #. I guess I'll have to develop a plan B.

Thanks again for all your help on this forum.
@dizzyrapper18 -

If you don't already have an optical cable, your may want to order one as well in case the cable box has HDMI handshake issues and must be connected to the TV with optical to the AVR. If the cable box has a digital coax output (orange), you can also use a yellow composite video cable from there to the coax digital input on the AVR, or have them double the sub cable order if not too late and use that instead of the optical.
