The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX13 Model Owner's Thread & FAQ - Page 183

No offense taken Batpig...I was steered to the Dnon by a reliable source, albeit he could not name the model.

Please steer me to the appropriate Denon model line up where I will sense at least a mild upgrade from the MC1...

I have Marquee 8110 projecting onto a 110" screen.... The Video processor (TAW ROCK PRO) that I used before(and recently died) was better than the PS3, so a better scaling processoe would be a nice to have.

Any guidance will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

Does anyone know if its possible to output stereo audio to all speakers in both zones? I'm wondering if I can try to spread the speakers out all over my condo to try and fill it with equal volume music.

Thanks
Hi all,

I recently purchased a Denon 1513 AVR with a Monitor Audio Mass 10 system which comes with the Mass W200 Subwoofer. The setup seems to be working well.

I just have one problem - After a period of silence or bass-less music like pure guitar, high piano notes etc, my subwoofer takes a second or so to detect bass notes coming in. It misses the first one or two bass beats, and then works perfectly afterwards. Is this normal? Its like the sub goes to sleep and wakes up only after the first bass note or so.

I have tried various things - I have set the subwoofer switch to "Always On" instead of "Auto On" etc, tried to increase signal strength to the sub-woofer, tried to up the crossover frequency to 120Hz but I am facing the same problem.

Any comments or suggestions? Would be much appreciated!

Subs are usually very efficient, requiring their volumes to be lowered to be calibrated to the 75db test tone. Try lowering the sub volume knob to about 1/4 of maximum and leave the sub set to "ON" not "Auto".

Yes, if you use the "Multi CH Stereo" surround mode and pass the same non-HDMI/digital source to Zone 2 as well.

If you don't already have an optical cable, your may want to order one as well in case the cable box has HDMI handshake issues and must be connected to the TV with optical to the AVR. If the cable box has a digital coax output (orange), you can also use a yellow composite video cable from there to the coax digital input on the AVR, or have them double the sub cable order if not too late and use that instead of the optical.

What is hdmi handshake issues?

HDMI Handshake issues defined with workaround solutions ....

I'm awaiting my 2113 from avscience but I have a question. I have wired my house for 3 separate zones. I plan on buying impedance matching volume controls for all 3 locations. Can I connect all 3 pairs of left/right wires to my surround back post? I would assume with the impedance matching controls set correctly the amplifier will only see 8 ohms. I never plan on using more than one room at a time in combination with my main listening area. Is this setup ok? My boss has an old Sony avr I was thinking about buying and using my zone 2 pre out and hook that up but won't my original plan be ok?

I was just playing around with the options in both my Samsung TV & BluRay, and I totally forgot that they each offer various video streaming services - like Netflix. But that made me wonder how that would work in conjunction with the 2113? I guess the BluRay makes sense, being that it has it's own HDMI input into the Denon. But what if I want to stream something via the TV (because it already has built-in wireless)? Unless I'm not understanding the full capabilities of HDMI, it's downstream of the AVR. So, how would the audio from the TV (streaming Netflix, for instance) get back to the Denon?

so i bought this stuff for my denon 2113ci reciever polk monitor 60s, m30s, cs1, and psw505 sub.
i did order 4 hdmi cable xbox, tv, dvd player, and cable box (if needed. might us the wireless receiver for the tv so shouldnt make a difference)
and i got 2 sets of bannana plugs for the receiver and speaker.

Did i make the right order? also got 20% coupon code.

You may find those net jacket HDMI cables a bit stiff. They're normally meant for in-wall installs. If they stress the HDMI jacks too much, you might want to give these 28 awg HDMI cables a try.

Can anyone explain why my 2313 plays Mp3, WAV, but for some reason, it's not playing FLAC files. I converted around 200 CD's to FLAC about a year ago and I can't get the Denon to play nice with them. Any suggestion? I'd rather not spend the time converting them to MP3 if possible.

Thanks,

Mike

Some hdmi's can do ARC or audio return channel. Or you can do optical from the tv to the Denon. I have an optical because if I plug in a usb to my tv with a video file the hdmi doesn't seem to work

Well if you had enough care to covert them to flac files you surely wouldn't want to make them mp3's. not sure though. we will wait for the brains to come along

Is there a way to do more than 7 channels with the 3313 somehow with external amplification?
^^
No ... only the 4311CI and 4520CI can add 2CH with an external amp.

Yes, your original plan will work; however, using the 2nd AVR would allow you to expand to whole house audio without concern of the AVR shutting down in protection mode.

How is it you are presenting them to the AVR as 2CH flac should play just fine?

One of two ways ... either via HDMI (ARC) where the audio passes back to the AVR over the same HDMI cable that connects the AVR to the TV, or via an optical cable connected from the TV to the AVR.

Klipsch SW308 volume too low...

I just set up a couple of systems in my home. One has a Denon 2113 with a Klipsch SW350, the other a Denon 3313 with a Klipsch SW308. The SW350 sounds great, but the volume of bass coming out of the SW308 is much, much lower. I've tried a few adjustments of the bass volume in the manual setup screen but can't get it to respond at low volume levels. When I run the test tone on all speakers to set the speaker level, the volume of the 308 is as high, or higher than the other speakers, but when music is being played, it's very low. I have the volume and crossover on the 308 itself set at max.

thanks....

thank you. I was thinking about getting a simple 4 zone speaker selector for HTD so if my impedance ever dropped the built in protection of the speaker selector would kick in and save my AVR. Could you please elaborate on how a second AVR would allow me to expand to whole house audio? Im new to this and I was under the impression that if I used a 2nd AVR i could only run my other zones off the FR/FL speaker posts essentially what i would be doing on my main AVR now.

Yet Another Zone 2 Audio Issue

Hope someone can help...here is my setup:

Denon 3313ci
TIVO Premier (HDMI)
Comcast Pace Ring 110 (HDMI)
Win 8 Media Center (HDMI)
Gigabyte GAE7AUM DS2H Motherboard
Onboard Nvidia 9400
Mitsubishi WD65737 (Zone 1 - HDMI)
Samsung HPT4264 (Zone 2 - HDMI)

So...the TIVO belongs to the wife. In a gift from heaven, the TIVO works great. The comcast box also works great. Both of them deliver Dolby Digital to Zone 1, unless Zone 2 is on the same output, then they switch to 2 channel, and the Denon takes over and creates faux Dolby. I am fine with this.

Now comes the troublemaker. The windows box was working ok...but sending out 2 channel all the time. This was acceptable to me. The issue was on zone 1, I was getting constant intermittent blue screens, but only on some channels. So I dug through many posts, read a lot about EDID and HDCP, and then decided to update to the latest Nvidia drivers. I did this, and happy day! my blue screen issues have vanished. (I could record a show, and it would cause blue screen on playback in the same place every time in zone 1, while zone 2 was played back fine, even simultaneously. This sent me on a wild goose chase of HDMI cable swapping, port swapping, etc) BUT, while the blue screen is gone, I HAVE A BRAND NEW ISSUE! (YAY BILL GATES!). Played back in zone 1, all is well...even passes Dolby Digital now, whereas it did not before. But zone 2, no matter what I try, causes a Video Error - Windows cannot play this file type....blue screen error. I tried installing Shark007...no change. I tried setting my system up as only having two screens...no change.

Sorry for the long diatribe...hoping someone has an answer....

I'm sending them to the Denon mixed with some Mp3 files and they don't even appear on the TV. Does it make a difference if they are "mixed" in with Mp3 files?

Thanks, Mike

Second, once you review that, you will know why the 2113ci is the correct answer. You get a 3rd year of warranty and the MultEQ XT calibration software is MUCH more advanced than the basic 2EQ version on the Onkyo.

Third, "street price" is much lower than msrp and if you pick up the phone and CALL a few authorized dealers (AVS, Electronics Expo, etc) you will be able to find the 2113ci for less than you are quoting for the 1913.

Fourth, since you specifically mention the desire for good sound quality at lower volume levels, you absolutely want to go with the Denon because of the full Audyssey package including Dynamic EQ + Volume, which are specifically designed to deal with this.

Answer: Denon 2113ci. Enjoy! smile.gif

Thanks for the recommendation. I guess the Denon 2113 it is. I'll keep a lookout for good prices on the 2113ci. I can even walk into an Electronics Expo and see what price they can offer. Sometimes you can haggle with those guys in the store.

Thanks. I was just able to order one at the price you mentioned though it's on back-order. I've got a lot of reading ahead of me between this thread and the Audyssey setup one. Thanks to all who participate.

i believe me and the wife might use the wireless reciever from att uverse so i think i should be ok. if we do not then ill have to figure it out.
can you link me to an optical cable that i would use for the tv receiver to the audio reciever?

FARKEM.
Those look a lot better for HDMI cables and I tried to change my order that I subbmitted last night and they said they couldnt change anything so I'm forced to wait for the items to arrive and me send them back using the RMA service. The problem is it'll probably take a few days for me to get the order and a refund. NOW, I'm wondering if I should just order the 28 gauge HDMI cables now and use the box they came in to ship the 24 gauge back instead of buying a box to ship them in. You think that would work? That way I'll have my cable and just wait for the refund to go back in my account.

JDSMOOTH.
What would be the better option for the Cable receiver to the TV? No idea what tv I'll be getting when i move but any tv should be working just fine as long as it has a HDMI port.
Optical (seems more expensive)? Subwoofer cable would work? Havent gotten Uverse yet but i think i should just wait til i know what to use huh? Try the wireless receiver to see if it works good then the HDMI cable, then go for somthing else if that doesnt?

Thanks

Decision time on a second receiver. I've purchased and compared a Denon 1913 to a Marantz SR5006. I am still in the return period and can only keep one. The price difference between the 2 was only $50, the 5006 was more expensive. (picked up the 5006 on clearance from BB and had BB price match Fry's on the 1913). Main difference between the 2 that has me going back & forth is the following:
  • 1913 offers better video with upscaling which is definitely noticeable for me as I have Cablevision and they transmit most video in 720p or 1080i
  • the sr5006 has multieq xt while the 1913 only has multieq which makes you think that the 5006 would have better sound quality.

Which one would you keep? I'll probably get the answer is to get the best of both worlds and pony up for the 2113ci but that's still $150 more than the 1913.
Decisions, decisions.

Ah! Thanks. I had skipped the ARC section of the FAQ, and forgot to double back on that to read up. Unfortunately. with my Samsung TV, it sounds like I'm a little out of luck with ARC, unless I want to turn on and off the HDMI-CEC option on the TV. I guess I can run one of my spare optical cables from the TV to the AVR, but that would mean un-mounting the set from the wall, to get at the cable run inside the wall. Kind of a pain for my lazy inclination. But, I would have to think I could just run another Ethernet line from the Samsung BluRay back to the wireless router, and then I could (likely) stream all the exact same content as I would from the TV. Does that make sense?

If it's too late to cancel, i think I'd just try out the one's you ordered. If there aren't any severe bends, you might be OK.

If you do re-order, think about getting the 6' instead of the 4'. There have been reports of handshake issues with some equipment if the cables are too short. Not something to worry about now; just something to keep in mind if there is trouble.

I am have an audio issue on (2) new 1713 units and its driving me nuts, maybe someone can give me some advice!

So I upgraded the bedroom receiver first to a new 1713 hooked up to a Samsung SMT-C5320 cable box (Cablevision Service). The issue that I am having is that every so often the audio drops and goes really low. It eventually goes back to normal but it can sometime stay low for a little while.

I thought it might be the cable box so I waited about a week before I could get a new one (same issue on the new one by the way!). In the meantime I had my other Samsung SMT-C5320 cable box hooked up to my family room tv (samsung un55es8000) with no drop out issues. When I installed the second 1713 in the family room TV (with Samsung SMT-C5320) I am having the same issues with the audio drop outs.

So it seems to me that the issue is between the 1713 and the Samsung SMT-C5320 (which are hooked up via HDMI in both cases). Has anyone had similar issues with this cable box (or others) and how would you suggest I proceed? I was thinking of hooking up the Coaxial Audio from the Samsung SMT-C5320 to the 1713 but I don't know if I can turn of the audio output from the Samsungs HDMI Output.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!!
