There is a configuration setting in the PCH for HDMI Audio that should be set to On. Maybe that is why you are not getting audio.

Worst case would be to go back to connect the PCH via digital audio and use component cables.

jdsmoothie: The manual says I have to use components (RVW) cables for the zone 2 audio and not HDMI? Do I need to buy long components now to fit through the wall? lol

This manual is just so confusing for me. ;\ When I try to set up Zone2 speakers, it automatically goes to Front/Bi-Amp speakers. But, I'm trying to set the Zone2 speakers to Surround Back. Do I actually have to have the components installed for it to actually see in the menu?

Two weeks ago my Denon 1713's HDMI just plain quit working. It was working the night before. The next day no picture from TV etc but no audio from any source through the HDMI 1. If I bypass the AVR and plug the source directly into the TV I get Video and audio through the TV speakers . I have high end cable's that I also tried switching out at first but no luck.. Reset the Denon still no luck.. After talking to Denon support I sent the 1713 off to Norman Electronics in Georgia. Talked to a tech down there in Georgia and he said the have Denon and several other AVR makes that board issues with HDMI 1. Mine is currently waiting for authorization from Denon for the board replacement.

So I did two things. I increased the subwoofer channel level on my amplifier by +5db and decreased the volume knob on my sub to around a quarter.

This helps. The sub now kicks in better at volume set to 50db and above.

However the same problem occurs for volumes less than 50db. Its almost like the sub takes a second or two to understand that the LFE channel has started pumping out bass notes.

I guess I will have to live with the fact that my listening levels should be more than 50db in general (it is a comfortable level thankfully)

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Denon 1513 AVR with a Monitor Audio Mass 10 system which comes with the Mass W200 Subwoofer. The setup seems to be working well.

I just have one problem - After a period of silence or bass-less music like pure guitar, high piano notes etc, my subwoofer takes a second or so to detect bass notes coming in. It misses the first one or two bass beats, and then works perfectly afterwards. Is this normal? Its like the sub goes to sleep and wakes up only after the first bass note or so.

I have tried various things - I have set the subwoofer switch to "Always On" instead of "Auto On" etc, tried to increase signal strength to the sub-woofer, tried to up the crossover frequency to 120Hz but I am facing the same problem.

Any comments or suggestions? Would be much appreciated!

There's one more thing you could try - use a y-splitter and connect the sub cable to both left & right inputs on your sub. Some folks with auto-on (I know you're not using it) have had success with this when their subs weren't coming on with the single cable. Maybe worth a shot.

If you do do this, you'll need to re-calibrate your sub because the use of a y-splitter will raise your output by ~6db.

Hello to all you Denon owners. I'm looking at the 2313 and really like what I see but am wondering if you can make audio adjustments without bringing up the OSD menu. Sometimes I like to adjust the sub level or center level, maybe increase the DRC if it's late and the kids are asleep... things like that but I'd prefer to do it with just the front panel display and not have the OSD show up.

Thanks for any input you may have!

jdspeedi: I just realized that if I put the bedroom speakers in the front and the living room speakers in the surround back, I won't have to use RCA components or technically a second zone. Right?

Will anyone be kind enough to go to their main web control page and give me the address of each of the links there?

I already know one, which is x.x.x.x/MainZone/index.html.
Am mainly looking for the link to the setup page.

Thanks!

I also had the problem with the blank black interface when first accessing Web Control. This went away after I added the AVR's ip address to my Trusted Sites under IE/Tools/Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites/Sites.

After that, entering the AVR's IP addr took me to http://x.x.x.x/top.asp (instead of index.asp).

From there I could access all the functionality including the Set Up page.

Also of interest, after saving this addr. to my Favorites, I could still access it directly after removing the AVR's IP address from my Trusted sites.

I hope this helps.

I've experienced an issue a couple of times recently on my 1 month old 2313. On Sunday I was watching D* (D* HD DVR is connected to HDMI 1) and then decided to put on Pandora using the Denon remote app. Everything worked fine and the Pandora UI was on the TV screen. After listening to Pandora for awhile, I decided to watch D* again by changing the input via the Denon app. Everything changed as it should: D* sound and video came back on, but then after a few seconds, the screen went black. The D* audio was still playing fine - just no picture. Rewinding the DVR buffer didn't help. I left it this way for a few minutes thinking maybe it was a D* issue but the picture never came back until I changed the channel. This happened again last night as I was listening to music from my computer via the Network input and again when I went back to watch D*, the TV picture appeared for a few seconds and then went black until I changed the channel.

Any ideas on what is causing this? And how to fix it?
It's often advised to stop a network source before switching inputs and this could be the source of your issue. Also, HDMI handshake issues are common with cable/sat boxes and the recommended fix is to connect the box directly to your TV via HDMI with optical audio to the AVR.

Hope this helps!

I finally bought the 1913 as, for foreseeable future, I would be using 5.1 setup and be using the surrounds for my zone 2 speakers. So only missing feature from 1913 for me was multeq XT, which I think is fine for my small setup.

I got a good deal from audioholics store and I paid $299 shipped for 1913. If anybody is interested in this deal, they can use the coupon SURROUNDME at this store to get this price.

I think I did hit the stop button in both instances before switching inputs, but I'll test that out tonight. Thanks.

I though I would add some network switches that work for me, in a contorted way. I am strictly a wired guy. My AVR is the 1713. I have 12 Mbs DSL at home which is plenty for Netflix streaming. I had the router placed in my home office. I often have more than one PC so I put in a NetGear GS605 v3 1 Gb switch which feeds to my desktop and laptop and then it goes to a wiring closet where there is another NetGear GS605 v3 is that feeds the wife's computer upstairs and the entertainment center. Since I have the 1713, a dish box, and a roku XS I put in a NetGear FS605 v3 100 Mb switch. So that means out of the router I go through 3 switches without any issues at all. I did the update with no problems either.

Noob with a problem....I'm in the process of setting up my Denon 1613....it was an open box item from best buy. When turned on....it starting working right away instead of taking me through the set up process. Is it recommended that I "reset" the avr and start fresh? And how do i do this? I tried the user manual but can't find anything.....

Cambridge s30's just came in! Off to home depot for wires.....thanks in advance for the help smile.gif

Go into the video source that you have the AVR connected to and click on "Setup" on the remote. Then click on Speakers, then Manual Setup, then "Setup Assistance" and just go from there. Don't need to reset it since you would be effectively 'resetting' it anyways.

Just picked up an AVR-2113ci from Paul's TV's today for $519.99, in stock, 5-7 days delivery. Also posted this in the Great Deals Found thread.

This 2113 is replacing an appx. 10 yr. old H/K AVR-310, which I will probably hand down to my freshman son. Any suggestions on OK sounding speakers suitable for a highschooler? Maybe 3.1's or 5.1's?

Just wanted to chime in;

I got my re-furbed 2113ci from A4L about two months ago and have had ZERO issues with it (well, if you disregard some of my stupid mistakes). Sounds great with music, and movies simply ROCK! It has no problem driving my (admittedly overly sensitive Klipsch) speakers to reference levels and hanging in there for extended viewing sessions.

I <3 this AVR. biggrin.gif

The Energy Take 5 system is recommended on here quite often, although I have no personal experience. Add the Klipsch RW-12d that's often on sale at Newegg and you got yourself a pretty rockin' budget system.

I spoke with Denon today regarding the issue of not being able to play FLAC files on my 2313 over the network and found out that it only plays FLAC files from the USB port. Apparently, this has to do with the size of FLAC files . So, I'll just have to convert those files that I want to listen to on a regular basis to Mp3 and move them to the My Pictures folder. Thanks to JD Smoothie for his help in this saga.

Thanks Spager. That did it.

Now that I've had the 2113ci for a week I have to say that it is awesome. I was a little worried, since I bought a refurbished unit off Ebay (for $419!). Also, my wife his happy with the sound upgrade over
our old receiver. So that purchase has been justified!

Here some of the things I like about the 2113:

1. The Audissey set up worked great. We were listening to a CD the other day, and actually heard background vocals we never heard before.
2. Network radio. Streaming music from around the country/world is pretty cool.
3. I was listening ot my ipod in one room when I noticed a button on the screen I'd never seen before. I pressed the button and my music was suddenly playing on the AVR, which was on in another
room. I guess that would be Airplay.

My next purchase will be a nice speaker system. I don't want to spend a ton of money, so I'll probably go with the Energy Take Classic 5.1. Does anyone have another recommendation for speakers in
the $400-$600 price range?

Thanks,
mto

That is not what the Owner's manual indicates not to mention a XX12 Owner just posted of the capability so I doubt the XX13 models suddenly lost that functionality. Try other software packages ....

Yes. Open box, demo, or otherwise used units should always be reset to factory defaults (see post #5 in this thread).

@Alan P and @jdsmoothie,

Thank you for your replies. I will try to use a Y-Splitter to see if it helps.

I was talking to someone else and they said that using the 12V input trigger on my sub would probably help in this case.

I thought the 12V trigger was used to only power on or off the sub. It seems like apart from this it would prevent the sub from going to sleep at low volumes also - would you agree?

Lastly I do not have a 12V trigger output from my Denon 1513 receiver. I was thinking I could just buy a wall plug type 12V DC adapter and plug one end into a wall plug and the other 3.5mm end into the sub. I am presuming it would work?

Thanks a lot for your help

poseidon

There's one more thing you could try - use a y-splitter and connect the sub cable to both left & right inputs on your sub. Some folks with auto-on (I know you're not using it) have had success with this when their subs weren't coming on with the single cable. Maybe worth a shot.

I have hundreds of CDs converted to FLAC and the 3313 has no issue playing them using MediaPortal as the mucsic server.

@666poseidon -

Don't see how the 12v trigger would work any better than simply setting the sub to ON rather than AUTO.

As an FYI to all, the popular Energy Take Classic 5.1 system is now offered as a rebranded product at Monoprice for only $200 for the complete setup: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10906&cs_id=1090601&p_id=9774&seq=1&format=2

It's the same exact product, just rebadged. An awesome value for a starter setup. And there's an easy upgrade path if you want to sell off the 8" sub that comes with it and upgrade to a better subwoofer.

Turns out I don't need MediaPortal to play FLAC files. I switched the 3313 to Network, pointed it to my NAS and the files play directly.

That is very interesting and what I thought the Denon was capable of doing. All that I can confirm is that my 2313 will not play them, and will not display a FLAC file. I even had the Denon person ask a supervisor to confirm what she said that it would only work through the USB port. The next question is what am I doing or not doing that won't allow my Denon to see and play FLAC files? Thanks for everyone's help.

Ok I totally just nailed down what could be an issue or a non issue with my tv. I noticed a humming sound coming from what I think is the hdmi board on my Panasonic ST50 plasma whenever I ran Audyssey. It was/is similar when a refrigerator makes it's noises. I was just messing around with crossovers and such in the 'manual setup' part of the speakers sub-menu. The other option in that sub-menu is Audyssey setup. I clicked on Audyssey setup, you get the click noise from the AVR like when you turn it on, and there goes the noise. I immediately backed out, there went the click as I backed out, and then it stopped. I did it three times and it's obvious whatever clicks in the AVR when the audyssey setup is selected is sending something through the hdmi. Any takers? JDsmoothie?
