I finally began to understand what various people were explaining and realized that I needed another piece of software to make this work (Denon does not make this very clear in my opinion). I downloaded TVersity and sure enough I can now play FLAC files, however, it transcodes them over to Mp3, but at least I can now play them and not have to manually convert a bunch of files. So at least for now all is pretty good!!
I use Serviio (a free DLNA) server; it will stream FLAC without transcoding. Likely many of the other candidates suggested previously will as well. Take a break, and enjoy your new-found streaming capability. But long term, it is worth getting FLAC streaming to work given you already have music in that format. In order of importance (to me), streaming FLAC will
  1. Allow you to listen to songs without a gap. The mp3 gap on Denon is shorter than some other media players, but still noticeable.
  2. Avoid real or imagined degradation in quality (depends on the mp3 bitrate)
  3. Avoid CPU use on your server during the transcode (not large, but also not zero)

on the denon 3313 ci 7.2 model

on the .2 if you add a second sub is it the same sound as the 1st sub or different for movies and or music stereo?

thanks

it's just an internal y-splitter, the 2 sub outs are identical.

I was just messing around with crossovers and such in the 'manual setup' part of the speakers sub-menu. The other option in that sub-menu is Audyssey setup. I clicked on Audyssey setup, you get the click noise from the AVR like when you turn it on, and there goes the noise. I immediately backed out, there went the click as I backed out, and then it stopped. I did it three times and it's obvious whatever clicks in the AVR when the audyssey setup is selected is sending something through the hdmi. Any takers? JDsmoothie?

Does this occur with all sources or just a particular source?

It happens only when I enter into audyssey setup. Something in the avr clicks when you enter in the setup menu and it starts immediately.

This is a noob question from someone who has owned and used denon receivers for more than 13 years now, so I'm blushing as I write this but I shall ask away any way: What happens to Audyssey room Eq speaker settings when one throws in a power amp, like say, an Emotiva XPA-5? Or put another way, if I'm to purchase an emotiva power amp to drive some 4 ohm speakers that are currently attached to my Denon 3313, will the emotiva void the effect of the Audyssey settings on the speakers? How does one preserve the effect of the room eq settings while benefiting from the increased power of the Emotiva?

I'm due to have a new AVR-2113ci arrive in a day or two & I have a question regarding firmware. Do current models come with up to date firmware or should I check for updates (I think I already know the answer!)! I will have to set this 2113 up probably with a wireless switch at some point due its final resting point but I can gain IP access from a different room to perform the firmware upgrade. Then, later, I can work on connecting it to a wireless switch at some point & reset the connection at that point. I was just hoping it would be good to go out of the box!

Not to worry, room eq is done way before you get to the amp stage.

Note that when you add an amp to a system, you do need to run the Audyssey calibration again. The external amp is likely to have a different gain than the receiver's internal amp, so the sound levels you hear will change. Running the calibration again will adjust the receiver's audio channels so the sound levels that you hear are correct again.

It's not guaranteed that a newly purchased receiver will have the most current firmware. It depends on when the unit was manufactured and boxed. I would go ahead and hook it up to your router (even if it means relocating it temporarily to another room) and check for firmware updates.

Exactly. The room EQ doesn't care where the amplification is happening. That's a totally separate process and comes way later in the chain than the processing stage. The signal that comes out of the processor stage goes to the DAC's and then is sent to the amplification stage. Whether it goes to the internal amps or external amps via the pre-outs, it's the same exact signal. All the amp does is take that signal and, well, amplify it!

As Selden notes above, you should re-run Audyssey though simply to account for gain differences between the internal vs. external amps. The only change in theory would be the speaker levels, the EQ filters should be exactly the same.

I want to connect my avr-2113ci wirelessly to my Netgear WNDR3400v2 wireless router. Netgear support recommends a range extender to accomplish this using either WN3000RP or WN2000RPTv1 range extenders. Any thoughts on this config?

would it be good to rerun the audyssey after adding an amp?

I have a Netgear WNDR4500 and use a Linksys WET610N ethernet bridge and it works great. The denon 3113 is in the family room downstairs connected to the Linksys bridge and the router is in my office upstairs. I haven't had a problems and I listen to internet radio all the time in the family room.

Either one will work. The WN3000RP is smaller, a little more expensive, and only has one ethernet port. The WN2000RPT [lose the v1 part, it's the older model], is a little cheaper, a little bigger, but has a 4 port switch built in. Nice, if you have other devices to connect.

edit: the 3000 will have less placement flexibility, as it''s basically a wall-wart design.

I bought the Netgear Range Extender (WN2000RPT) for the new 2113. It works perfectly, and took all of about five minutes to set up (and that included unboxing). It's communicating with our Fios router in a different room, and yet has perfect all green reception. I've been streaming Internet Radio to the AVR for the last couple weeks, since the Denon went live. It's awesome!
I like the fact that it has four-ports, because I already have two used between the Denon and my Samsung BluRay.

I have a technical question. This was currently asked in another thread, but I didn't so far get an answer that I know how to use. I have a Denon 1912 and a 1613,

And I just got a Klipsch RW-12d that was delivered DOA from newegg. the 12d subwoofer appears to have a good driver and a good case (no visible damage) but there is something amiss with the electrical equipment inside the casing, and the sub doesn't power on for more than 15 seconds. A newegg CSR has told me that after their investigation they may issue me a refund and leave me with the busted sub. It has been five days and they are in no rush to pick it up.

So it was suggested to me by BeeMan that I could try set the RW-12d up as a passive sub, or use it with an inexpensive external amp. Thus my question is the following. Is it possible without taking apart the RW-12d to set it up as a passive sub with one of my receivers? Can I have it set up as a passive sub and also keep my 5 normal surround speakers? If so, does anyone know how to do it (e.g. which wires plugged into where and what settings on the AVR)? Thanks!
If the sub's own amp doesn't work, then you have to open it up so you can connect an external amp directly to the speaker. Also, modern receivers are not designed to be able to drive a passive subwoofer. Their bass management only works with their line-level subwoofer outputs, so you need an external amp to drive the subwoofer.

In other words, it'll be less effort on your part to find a local A/V store that'll take your busted subwoofer for recycling and use the refund as partial payment for a working, powered subwoofer.

It's broken. It's essentially free. Go ahead, open it up. It might just be a loose connection somewhere. If you can't spot anything loose/wrong, try swapping the amp out. There's not much of a down side. Subwoofer Plate Amplifier. You might actually have fun.

This may be a redundant question but I haven't been able to find time to read all 187 pages of this forum, just the first 3.

Has anybody done a comparison of the AVR-3312 to the 2313? What are the similarities/differences? Is one a better value over the other?

Thanks for your help!

The only advantages the 2313 has are those items which are new to all xx13 models (e.g. Airplay independent to Zone 2, Spotify, improved GUI, etc). You can review this info in the beginning of this thread.

In all other respects the 3312 is a superior unit.

I may have lucked out. I bought a 3312 yesterday, then got an email saying it was gone and the seller (reliable online company) was willing to send me a new 3313 if I was OK with it(at no additional charge). Needless to say I said "yes".

Very weird, but I'll take it.

Thanks all for your help!

I have a similiar house layout as murfee1's & will probably go with Netgear's WN2500RP due to its dual band capability and its flexibility not being a wall mount. At about $80 online pretty much everywhere I checked, its about $20 more than the WN2000RPT at BB.

My 2113 is due to arrive on Monday, 2/18 & I want to connect my Scientific Atlantic Explorer 8300HD cable DVR, PS3, & Xbox 360 to it via HDMI. These devices are currently connected to my Samsung LN-T4665F via HDMI (picture only) & toslinked into my H/K AVR-310 for audio. I would liked to have both audio/video run through the 2113. Are there any 2113 HDMI port considerations I should be aware of in advance? Thanks!

Thanks! I didn't know about that Amp. I will look into it. Very much appreciate the reply.
