The **OFFICIAL** Denon AVR-XX13 Model Owner's Thread & FAQ - Page 189

Guys, I'm having a bunch of problems calibrating with my 2113. I have a 5.1 mirage os2 with a 10" sub. I've run the audyssey setup several times and still don't have the bass right. The first few times I was getting very weak bass. I did some research and found out I had the sub in auto, it needed to be on. iPad the phase 180 degrees and the frequency low, both needed to be opposite. When I got it all right, the setup still told me the sub was about 18 ft away when it is actually about 12 ft away. Bass was still low. I went out and bought a sound meter and set the sub to about 75 db (it probably wasn't that close as I have no idea how to take the measurement). Do you sit in your normal spot or get right on the speaker when taking the reading? After running the calibration again, the sub level was -12 (gain set to 3/4) and the bass was way too loud. I forgot to mention, after getting the sub setting right the cal level was -3.5. Can someone point me in the right direction? Am I just being unreasonable about the bass?

If you review the Audyssey 101/FAQ Guide linked in my sig, most likely all of your Audyssey related questions will be answered.

Thanks everyone

You won't "see" it at a low price anywhere. In general, authorized Denon outlets are not allowed to advertise anything other than MSRP. You have to actually call them and ask for the best price.

Thanks jdsmoothie, I'll give it a look.

Note this Guide was put together by forum member kbarnes701 and includes roughly the top 50 questions asked in the Official Audyssey thread so is very helpful in learning about all things Audyssey related ... to include Dyn EQ and Dyn Vol as well.

Anyone know if there are any good child guard plastic button cover things that work well with the Denon AVR's?

I found the two below on Amazon....

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003Y5B778/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ETTYPU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Would be grateful to hear if any have used these? Or if any know about other possibilities? Thanks!

Exactly. The price was listed on their ad but the brand name was not advertised and the brand was blacked out on the picture. So you had to call to find out what it was. I'm glad I did.

I'm looking to upgrade my Denon 789 for mainly one reason: HDMI video with HDMI or analog audio from a separate source.

What really bothers me is I cannot surf the web on my HTPC using an HDMI input AND play my turntable on a separate input. I do not want to run any additional video cables from my HTPC to my TV.

Can the xx13 models do this? Can anything do this? The 1913 is on sale right now for $500 /w free shipping at Amazon and seems like a great deal.

Yes the 1913 can do this.

You have 3 analog ---. Hdmi inputs to choose from, A simple toggle from Auto for your Hdmi audio, to Analog for your turntable audio (Analog) in Input Mode lets you choose the audio.

The same limitation has not changed with more current models to include the XX13 models. The suggestion by spager will work with your 789 ... ie. the HTPC must be assigned to the same source name used by the turntable.

Hi all,

I have a quick question that I think I already know the answer to but figured I would check with you all to see if I was missing something.

Is there anyway to adjust the video settings independently for each input on a 2113?
I have a problem....I just hooked up my 3313 ci and got everything set up. The first time I turned it up loud (it's driving 7 speakers and 2 subwoofers) it shut off.

When I powered it back on the panel display no longer worked and I get no auido. I tried a soft reset and a microprocessor reset. The GUI still works but the panel and the audio are done.

Is this unit defective? Is there anything I can try? If so it will be the second defective denon I've purchased in a year. 2 for 2.

Yup. Picture Adjust settings (p. 106 OM).

Try doing a few more microprocessor resets. What is the impedance of your speakers? Have you run Audyssey yet? If yes, did you reset the FL/FR speakers to SMALL/80Hz as is recommended in the Audyssey 101/FAQ Guide linked in my sig.
They are all 8 ohms. I have run audyssey, I did not set the front l/r speakers to small as they are full range speakers and it is recommended by the manufacturer to set the crossover at full/40 hz. I had not seen your guide before running my setup.

I will try a few more resets.
Did 7 more microprocessor resets. It's just broken. I'm going to return/exchange it. If you want me to try some things just to see if it's fixable I will but I'm doubting it. I just got it less than one week ago.

If it matters speakers are set to: mains/full range 40hz. Center 60 hz. surround and back surround 80 hz. The center is also recommended by the manufacturer to run 60hz. I know it contradicts your guide, just saying that the reason I had it set up that way was per manufacuteres request.

Is this simply too much for the denon to handle? I had a 3312 ci before this one driving 8 ohm speakers that were smaller than my current speakers. But they were all at 80 hz and the failure on that receiver was a completely different issue, just a faulty center channel post that wouldn't make contact unless I jiggled it. With that one I wasn't even able to find out how loud it could go. all the way up to +10 db it never failed (and I couldn't even make out any distortion either).

I don't listen to content that loud, I was just curious what it could do.

The 3313 crapped out at 0db.

Wait. So you're telling me that if I have source named "vinyl" and video is assigned to HDMI 1 (computer) and the audio is assigned to analog 2 (turntable), everything will work as intended?
I'm saying that if you have the turntable plugged into the "DVD" analog inputs and the HTPC is "assigned" to the "DVD" HDMI input, then you can change the INPUT MODE setting for the DVD source from "Auto" to "Analog" to listen to the turntable audio while watching the HTPC video. You would then have to change it back to listen to the HTPC audio again.

Hello all,

I'm interesting in buying the AVR-1913 because of it's powered second zone. I have some questions about multizone use to which I was not able to find the answers in the owner's manual.

I should preface these questions with the following: I want an AVR that allows me to have two zones, each with stereo sound, and the receiver to act (for the most part) like two fully independent receivers (except when I want the same thing played in both zones).

1. In any 2-zone configuration, the zone's volumes can be adjusted independently, right?

2. Can zone 2 be set to DLNA streaming, whilst zone 1 is set to, for example, digital coaxial input? What about the reverse of this? Zone 2 will be powered.

3. Assuming the calibration microphone will reach the other (zone 2) room, can both zones be calibrated independently with Audyssey?

4. I want to use the receiver with no TV plugged into it, and as mentioned I'd like to stream FLAC thru the DLNA server. Can the AVR be controlled without the onscreen GUI? That is, can I browse the library and select a song with the AVR's front panel LCD? How about using the iOS app on a iPhone/iPod? (I imagine this way would be preferable.) This question applies to the AVR-1613, too.

5. What's up with the comment in the manual that "It is not possible to play the digital audio signals input from the HDMI, COAXIAL or OPTICAL connectors in ZONE2." Is this for real? How can this be? Why in the world would this be the case? If I'm understanding this correctly, it seems like a major shortcoming of the Zone 2 feature. I'm trying to figure out a workaround in this case...I guess I would need an external soundcard, b/c my PC's analog audio out is sooo noisy.

Thanks very much in advance!
- Paul

1. Correct.
2. Yes to the first part, no to the second. Zone 2 is only analog connected devices, network sources, FM Tuner, and USB.
3. No. Audyssey only applies to the main zone speakers.
4. Using the front panel display can be difficult at times. Much better served using the Web Control feature (p. 89 OM) or smart phone app. The 1613 does not support the Web Control feature, although does support smart phone control.
5. See #2 above. This is the case for at least 98% of all AVRs on the market today. Among the few that are able to pass PCM 2.0 over optical/digital coax include the prior year 331XCI series with the exception of the current 3313CI; however the 3313CI is able to pass HDMI to a Zone 2 using a dedicated Zone2(HDMI) output.

For more info, refer to the Zone 2 section in post #3 of this thread ....

I have a Denon 3313 av receiver. Everything worked fine until a few weeks ago when it simply stopped working. No sign of burning on the plug, no sign of a power overload. It just died. I bought it new through eBay and have been told by the third party warranty that I may need to send it to the US to get it repaired. I am in nsw Australia. I bought Denon because I expected a degree of quality. When it worked it was fine, but even I'd I get it repaired, I would be very hesitant to buy Denon again.

Unfortunately, purchasing a model not designed for your part of the world from an unauthorized dealer is always problematic. Although the price may be attractively low, too often it turns out to be a false economy. There are always a few systems which fail quickly. While they aren't large in number, being the person who got one of them is very painful. Of course, posts to AVS tend to be about those failures, since if it works fine, there's no reason to ask for help.

just want to double check something

just got AVR 3313. 30' monoprice ultraslim hdmi with redmere. worked perfect from Comcast box to tv until i added receiver. sometimes video cuts out for 10seconds but audio stays. never seen a final answer but after several forum reads it seems that this is a known issue with Comcast boxes and most AVR's? fix is to run HDMI directly to tv and optical from Comcast box to receiver for audio?

thanks

I just bought the Amazon deal on the Definitive Technology Speakers, The 2 BP-8060ST, 2 SR-8040BP and 1 CS-8040HD for $2k. I'm looking at a Denon 2113 or 2313. Right now PaulsTV has the 2113 for $479 and the 2313 for $674. Which should I go with? I had a cheap Denon that came in a home theater package that apparently the HDMI inputs are toast on so I require a new one.

Which receiver would you get and why?

Thanks in advance!

It is hard to answer without more info from you regarding desired features. Why not look at BatPig's buying advice in first post of this thread?

$479 is a dang good deal on the 2113, so I'd be hard pressed to pass that up. As ProfD said, I would check Batpig's buying advice on the first page of this thread to make sure it meets your needs though.

I don't need the extra hdmi out or inputs. I think the 2113 will work fine. I have no use for a 2nd zone either. Thanks for the info guys. Can't wait to hook it up to my new speakers.

Yes, that is normally the advice. I would play with the HDMI cable between your cable box and the AVR along with any HDMI-specific settings on the cable box to see if you can make it work.
I really like having the AVR do all the HDMI switching when possible, but then my TV won't switch HDMI inputs at start up - I have to wait for the TV to boot up, which take about 30 seconds. Letting the AVR do the HDMI switching avoids this problem.

thanks for the advice. i have tried a couple different cables between the cable box and AVR. i will look in the settings of the cable box to see what i can find regarding HDMI specific settings. its not real bad like others, just a bit annoying. only happens maybe every 45mins.

Did anyone order a 3312 from EE and then get a "free" upgrade to 3313 due to availability? Mine arrives wed, and they still show the 3312 on their site as in stock, so I remain skeptical...
