Thank you. I do not know about this "container" business. I just encoded the file through iTunes in the standard way. In any case I can either stream the song from my computer to the 1613 using Airplay. Or I can play the songs directly through the 1613 from my PS3. I guess I will do one of those in the future.

There are other CDA --> ALAC converters available that you could try as well. The one linked below rips to .mp3 file format so should stream without issue.

Thanks again. I think that is a Windows program. I am a Mac only guy.

Thx folks, seemed to solve both problems fairly quickly. I'll review the beginning of the post thread for other "simple" fixes.

Thx again!

Getting a 3313 this week. Have a question about the audyssey microphone. How long is the cord from the mic to the receiver? My receiver will be in the basement and my home theater room is on the first floor.
The mic cord is 25' in length. You can safely extend that another 25' to a max total of 50' without any degradation of the signal. Anything further and you'll either have to bring the AVR to the first floor or consider purchasing the Audyssey Pro Kit ($750) which includes a better mic with it's own amp that can extend beyond 125'.

Hey guys, dumb question but I can't seem to find an answer. I have an AVR 2313 connected to a Sharp Aquos 70" smart TV. I have sonos connected to the CD input via optical on the denon. When I switch to CD to listen to sonos it turns the TV on and displays the denon logo and keeps the tv on. Any tips on how to do just audio only when listening to CD/Sonos and not wake up the TV and display on the TV? I assume there is a no video option somewhere?

TrueHD saga.

It all began when my Marantz AV9000 and MM9000 mighty AV combo showed its age...
So it was time for change. After spending some time on the internet I finally bought Denon AVR 3313CL. After initial connection of "all" cables, test. Marantz SACD 7001 KIS, Sonus Faber front speakers, DIY SW, B&W surround speakers. LG 47LS9000 LED panel. Video player was my laptop (HDMI for video, SPDIF for audio).
Completed Audyssey wizard, manual setup of speker size... blah blah.

First test of setup:
- SACD audio quite OK. Im not complaining.
- Home theatre "FAIL!" Denon switched off three times during watching Skyfall. At various levels of sound. Without any error indication. FW update did not help. It was the same.

I checked all connections for stray wires, setup, everything. I thought it was defect AVR. After spending some time on the internet I found a post mentioning AC line conditioner in the description of another problematic setup. I had one, too. So it was time for some re-cabling. After bypassing the AC conditioner I played various movies and voila! Problem solved!

It was time for real TrueHD sound. Additional speker cables for bi-amping front speakers. I bought Asus Oplay Mini. Varios sound settings of output/input HDMI port on Denon and Asus... FW update of Asus... No HD sound for me ;(
Obviously Asus doesnt passthrough HD component of DTS signal. Core only. Bummer!

During all the setup-ing I noticed that even the picture on my LG LED was... crap! At first I suspected the noname cables. Or Denon? After switching three different cables I thought it was low budget cable in the chain. But then... what if it is the HDMI port on LG LED? YES IT IS! Unbelievable. Out of warranty of course.
Three different HDMI ports - three different pictures!
- First HDMI with highly compressed JPEG effect,
- Second HDMI impecable picture,
- Third HDMI with blurred picture.

Now Im using only second HDMI port - Denon does the swiching. And looking for budget TrueHD source.

Hoping this post will be useful?
Best regards

If you're connected via HDMI try turning off "Aquos Link" on the TV.

Hi!!!

I have been trying to find this information but no success. I also asked the same question in the Onkyo 818 thread...

Is it possible that my son can play PS3 downstairs with 5.1 sound and i can watch TV upstairs with either the tv-speakers or separate 2.0 speakers at the same time . The cable/sat box will be connected with hdmi and also the ps3.

Not enough info. Short answer: of course it is possible with th correct equipment. You'll need to post your whole setup to get a straight answer. It sounds like you would want a cable box upstairs and a Surround sound setup downstairs.

Ok,thanks for answer.

I have a projector downstairs in the "movieroom" where i also have the ps3 and the satbox. They will be connected to the AVR with HDMI and from the AVR i will run 1 hdmi cabel to the projector and 1 HDMI cabel upstairs to the LG 55" tv. The TV cabel will be connected to HDMI out zone 2. Now i try to find the answer if i can have different outputs from the AVR to the projector and the TV same time. I wanna watch tv upstairs while my son plays his ps3 downstairs.

Edit: it is the 3313 that im thinking to buy...

Enjoy Two Different HDMI Sources Simultaneously

The AVR-3313CI incorporates true multi-zone HDMI audio/video distribution with the inclusion of its HDMI matrix switching functionality. Equipped with three HDMI outputs (two parallel and one discrete), the AVR-3313CI allows for the connection of up to three different HDMI-equipped displays. The receiver can send two different HDMI feeds to two displays at the same time directly from the receiver, eliminating the need for costly external switches or remote control complexity.

Oki!!! So the Denon 3313 differs from the Onkyo 818 then...
And i will be able to connect 1 pair of speakers to the "Surround back" and get the 2.0 stereo with the tv upstairs?
I have installed today Denon 2133 and calibrated speakers with Audyssey.
All seem to be OK, with an exception: I have no picture/sound from BR/Dvd player.
I've connected the BR player to Denon receiver with HDMI, and connected optically Denon to the set top box. Also the TV is connected via HDMI with the receiver.
While running a BR disk (during which I kept hearing a light, high pitch noise - is this normal?) and a DVD, the display on the receiver stated BD/DVD and was showing the running time, but thats all.

Did I miss something?

Thank you.

Hey Guys....new to the forum and ownership here and was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem. The high end on my sound system is not giving me any "sparkle" that I believe should be for this quality of gear. I have the 2313, Panny blueray player, and I am running the JBL CS6100 satellite system with an extra sub and extra set of satellites for a 7.2 set up. (all matching JBLs). Audessy settings are on, but I feel there should be more clarity of the high end......ie cymbals hi-hat and "S's" on vocals. Please help!! Thanks!

get better speakers... biggrin.gif

Next I focused on the midrange and high end: Houston we have a problem! The highs lacked any real detail and sounds were really smeared in the highest octaves. Cymbal crashes sounded particularly bad. Never was the sound grating, raspy or distorted, but disappointing nonetheless. Likewise, midrange really lacked punch on the lower octaves, but this is typical of most speakers with such small drivers. Upper midrange was also on the thin side but not too bad. link

the AVR can only do so much.

@ Stober -- Try switching from the standard "Audyssey" EQ curve (which includes some high req roll-off) to the "Flat" curve. That will add some treble back in.

But, yes, I think the speakers themselves are the most likely culprit.

Quick question regarding HDMI,

I have a denon 1613 hooked up to an Apple TV, ps3, and TV of course (led)......

My question is, will "upgrading" my HDMI give me any real benefits? All my cables are at least 5 years old and I keep reading about HDMI 1.4, high speed, etc.

If yes, what HDMIs are recommended?

Thanks and sorry for the extremely noobish question.

I was afraid of this.....Hmmmm......Any suggestions? Do you think replacing the FL and FR only will help? What small speakers do you guys know that are really crisp without breaking the bank. Just spent a bunch on all my gear plus a Panny plasma. Thank you so much!
I'll try that too, Batpig. Thank you! I only ran the 6 position setup with Audessy on some books. (bad I know). I have the boom mic and adapter on the way. Think this might help? Open to any suggestions to replace current speakers too. I have read so much on these threads that are very helpfu ! You guys ROCK! BTW.....my current system sounds unbelievable for movies.....I couldn't be any happier with that portion. But Rhapsody (from my wifi blueray player) Pandora and only some Cd's are disappointing me a little. Thanks again guys!

Yes, using a mic stand or tripod for your Audyssey mic will most likely make your system sound a little to a lot better. biggrin.gif

Rhapsody and Pandora are low bit rate sources, so I would expect them to sound less than stellar. On lower bit rate sources, you should try playing around with the "Restorer" setting. Helps a lot for me on MP3s at the "3" setting.

If all of your sources are functioning (i.e. audio + video is passing through correctly) then changing cables won't do anything. Digital cables either work or they don't. The only reason to upgrade would be due to some sort of failure, e.g. drop-outs, sparklies, or lack of bandwidth (1080p not passing but lower resolutions do).

If you want a great deal on small but really high quality speakers, you can get the Energy Veritas V-Mini 5.0- package for only $350 from WWStereo using promo code MEGADEALNEWS. http://www.wwstereo.com/Energy/VMINI5.0R

That's a huge reduction off of the normal price of ~$1,000 for the full set. These speakers are very small but they are VERY high quality and have a fabulous tweeter.
Stober,

A traditional rule of thumb is to budget twice as much for speakers as for the electronics used to drive them. If you have the time, you should consider auditioning different types of speakers at local Audio/Video stores (more than just Best Buy). You'll be surprised at how different they sound. Take music with you that you're familiar with so you'll have some idea what they should sound like. Of course, they'll also sound somewhat different in your home listening environment than they'll sound in the showroom. Speakers and room acoustics have the greatest influence on the quality of the sound you hear. Electronics are a distant third, although room equalization software does help a lot.

Just setup my AVR1913. I've noticed that when I pause my Tivo and then hit play the volume "fades back up" to it's original level. How do I shut this feature off? I can't figure out what the setting is that controls it.

Right. I was more interested in this scenario: watching something from Blu-Ray player on main TV in 5.1 via receiver and send cable box signal at the same time directly to the 2nd TV. Will that reduce sound signal from BD player to 2.0 on "zone 1"?

Turn off Dynamic Volume.
