I will change the distance from sub...it is not downfiring - Bic F12.

As others have noted the sub distance is accurate because the measure is of acoustic delay, not physical distance. This is caused by the filters in the sub introducing some signal delay. Your BIC sub has a crossover bypass switch in it, if you set this to the "digital" position (i think that's what it's called on your sub) and rerun Audyssey you will get a shorter distance because the filter in the sub will be deactivated.

Today I first ran audyssey setup after two months of using my 1713 without it.
Damn, this thing DOES make a difference eek.gif Esp. in the lower register.
Now, my system is only a humble 2.0, and troubled by being run in a non-square room, and MLP being not quite inbetween the speakers. But the Audyssey improved the sound dramatically. There's now stereo imaging, there's proper low end, overall sound is much fuller and I can hear zero processing artifacts, which I kinda feared. If anything, maybe a tad too much high end. The "flat" curve is shrilling and unlistenable on recrods with a lot of highs. But I did space the measuring points quite widely, and I know this may lead to such problems, so maybe I'll rerun.
Anyway, its a dramatic improvement over the direct sound, and makes me wonder why there's expensive audio equipment being sold without any room correction features. smile.gif
I know most of you guys have discovered all that years ago, just wanted to share my results with those reading who didn't try it yet.

I mean, even without a sub, I guess male voices shouldn't sound that 'bassy' if the calibration is well done.

Another one would be the distortion of high frequencies in human voices, especially in standard definition TV programs/news broadcasts.
And also: the shyness in mid frequencies reproduction.
But that's another story, the latter two are most probabably caused by the speakers.

What are you using to hold the mic? Are you using a stand or tripod? Just a thought.
I Had terrible results before purchasing a recommended microphone stand.

I just finished setting up my 2313. The first time I calibrated I didn't use a stand I just held the mic. This morning I used a tripod WOW what a difference. I just finished hooking everything up. I can't believe my ears I feel and hear sounds I never knew existed

Well, I didnt feel like buying a stand especially for that, neither a tripod.
I assembled a sort of stand, made of 2 objects, of which only one was comprising thin legs, the other one was more like a mug.

Only after calibration finished I realised I had a small tripod available ( a 'gorilla-pod') but still it wasnt high enough so It would needed to be placed on something else.
Anyway, I've got the idea, so the tripod/stand or what ever, on my next calibration, will need to occupy as little space as possible, with very slim/thin legs/carcass - so that the sonic vawes will be able to freely pass under the calibration mic too, right?

Oh, and one more thing: the manual says that mic should be first placed on the main listening position, but no closer than 2 feet from any wall. What if my listening position is at about 1 foot from the back wall (couch against the back wall)? I've placed it a bit near my mlp, and still it was under 2 feet from the back wall. You mean maybe this has spoiled the quality of the calibration?

Hi all - new AVR-2113 owner here and could use some help!

Set up the unit last night and all went smoothly. Brand new set up in our renovated family room so everything's new...something I've been waiting to do for years! Anyway, last night the set up of my ascend acoustic speakers and outlaw sub all worked perfectly. Network connection worked fine too, as I listened to some Internet radio and some songs via AirPlay. Directv HD DVR set up fine too. Didnt bother with Blu Ray yet as I need one more shelf to be added so I'll wait on that.

When I did all this I'd grabbed our panasonic plasma from the bedroom for setup, since our 65tv50 wasn't coming until today. Today's setup went fine with the only addition being an optical cable I had to add so I could get audio for Netflix and Amazon Prime.

That's when all hell seemed to break loose. I was trying out Netflix and the audio was choppy. I tried to return to directv but all of a sudden the remote became unresponsive and then the unit shut off. And I couldn't get it to power back on. I tried unplugging it and waiting 30 seconds but that did nothing. I removed the optical cable (even though I knew that couldn't have anything) to do with it.. But it just seemed dead.

Then... After about five minutes it started coming on and off rapidly for like 3 seconds at a time like it was possessed. After a minute it stopped and I saw a message that said a firmware update was available and did I want to proceed...but by the time I got to the remote that message was gone.

I went into the menu and went to both check for updates and get updates and both times it came back "connection failed"...even though Internet radio and airplay and Netflix (with perfect audio with the optical cable reconnected) all play fine.

And about five minutes ago after listing to music via airplay for 30 minutes it shut off again. I waited a few minutes and then it did the possessed thing again. It didnt seem like it was stopping so I unplugged it for a minute. It came back and again gave me that quick "get update now?" message which I missed. And I tried again to get updates and got the connection fails.

Is this a known issue? Is there some way to get this update that I'm missing? Or is an exorcism required? I'd hate to think I've got a lemon but obviously that's what it feels like. Would greatly appreciate your advice.

Hi guys!

Fell asleep infront of the TV last night when watching a movie. When the movie stoped my PS3 automatically powered down after 60 minutes or so, and then my AVR/TV as there wasn't any signal. Totally normal!
However, today, I couldn't get any video signal through the PS3 anymore.
I could see the AVR menus, the settings, other inputs etc, but the AVR didn't let through the video signal from the PS3.
I went ahead and did a complete reset on the PS3 and finally got video with correct resolution. So far so good.
I continued to configure the PS3 as all settings where resetted. When I came to the Display Settings I turned off the Deep Color setting, which should be off, and now I lost the video again.
It seems that when ever I change a setting, start Netflix or any other commands that require a HDCP handshake I lose the video.
I then have to change input on the AVR for a minute and then change back and hopefully I have video again, otherwise repeat the input switch until it finds the signal.

I have tried different cables, connected the PS3 to different input, unplugged all the devices for over 10 minutes and also did a HDCP handshake reset by disconnecting all cables while all devices where powered on, then powered off everything, unplugged the power cords and finally connected everything again and powered on the TV, the AVR and last the PS3.
I just did a factory reset on the AVR aswell.

I have an Apple TV connected to another input (this is what I switch to when losing signal), and there doesn't seem to be an issue with it, but very difficult to test/search for same behaviour as the Apple TV doesn't HDCP handshake when starting different services/movies/apps.

I can see on the AVR display that it tries to establish a connection/a handshake, but it never succeeds. There is a "M1" flashing on the display couple of times and then it shows "Ana." (as in analog I guess) instead of HDMI

Any ideas?

I have the "phat" PS3, a 3313 and a Pinoeer KRP-500A.

Thanks in advance!

All - just an update. I reset my network to see if that would have an impact and it let me update the firmware! Took 30 minutes or so but seemed all set.

However, after about an hour of directv watching I went to change volume and the remote was unresponsive. I tried via the denon iPod app. Nothing there either. Had to manually power off. But then could not even manually power back on.

Unplugged for 15 minutes and now seems fine. I checked firmware and it says I have the latest.

Suggestions at this point? I'm really hoping all will be well now but if there's something else I can do or check I'd appreciate knowing what to look for.

Thanks

im so disappointed in my denon 3313 ci.. it said 125 wpc.. wow only in 1 ... so in stereo its only 62 watts ..

good thing it does have pre outs... i added a real emotiva separate amp the xpa 3 wow what a night and day difference in the sound quality..

you need power and lots of it if you want good sound quality even at moderate levels..

not too happy with my denon but the emotiva amp really gave my system

sonic nirvana!!!!

I have 65VT50 and a denon 3313. I watched a movie on Netflix (through the tv not the receiver) yesterday and I had to use the TV speakers. Is there some setting in the tv or receiver that I need to set for the audio return channel to work?

Make sure HDMI Control is on in the receiver, and VieraLink is on in the tv. Set tv audio settings to external speakers (home theater). Set receiver to "TV Audio" input if it doesn't do it automatically. Off you go. smile.gif

Batpig, is there away to get other than two channel listening mode from my Mac mini? When I attempt to press music which usually switches to the PLIIx Music I've selected it does nothing. It doesn't give the option either.

Denon AVRs generally meet their marketed rating (eg. 125W) into 2CH.

Yes, leave the blankets there as well as reclining the sofa.

Place the mic at least 2' from the back wall such that it will likely now be about head height at your knees.

Try doing a "network reset" as noted in post #5 of this thread and if still no joy, refer to post #6 of this thread for a USB update.

M1 is referring to the Monitor1 output you are using and the "Ana" will appear when there is no digital signal being passed through the HDMI cable from the source device to the AVR. Try connecting the PS3 to the other HDMI input jacks to see if one works better. Also try cycling HDMI Control ON/OFF/ON/OFF.

My 2113 just lost audio on two of the HDMI inputs and video on a 3rd. I tried powering off/on and unplugging and didn't help. I was able to get all 3 inputs fully working by performing microprocesser reset.

Anyone know what may be causing this? heat related possibly?

Anyone else running into this issue?

I have only had the unit about a month and would hate to need to reset it on a regular basis.

I have already tried another input, same issue. I can try a couple of others aswell.
And I did a factory reset on the AVR, do you mean that cycling the HDMI control even after a reset could help?
I'll try that when I get home.

Do you know why this would suddenly start to happen without any changes in hardware or in settings?

Yes I am aware of this so far with my new Denon. It just doesn't give the option for PLIIx Music when you press and hold the button.

Maybe someone can help me with this issue.

I recently bought a Denon 1913 receiver to go with my Polk 65Ts and Polk 25C.
I love the system and everything sounds amazing.

...but I ran into a problem last night where when I try to play a movie off a USB Flash Drive, I get no audio from the Denon. I have the USB drive plugged into the TV and the video plays flawlessly but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the audio to play through the Denon. Any suggestions?

The TV is a VIZIO E601i-A3 if that makes any difference. Any help is greatly appreciated.
What's the audio format? It might not be compatible with the TV.

Have you configured the TV to bitstream the audio track?
If the audio can't be bitstreamed, it needs to be Dolby or stereo LPCM. TVs cannot decode DTS, only Dolby.

What kind of audio connection are you using? ARC or a separate digital audio connection (coax or optical)? Most TVs limit ARC to stereo. Configuring ARC to work can be tricky.

You might try playing the USB drive through a Blu-ray player, instead of the TV. Current BDPs can decode just about any audio format. Alternatively, you might have to reformat the source material you're trying to watch so that the audio is reduced to stereo LPCM.

Hello All, I finally got all my stuff set up. New Denon 1613 with Polk speakers. My question is, When I ran the audyssey setup everything sounds good. I changed the speakers manually in the front to "small" and all of the crossovers to 80HZ as suggested elsewhere. The sub was at -5 db after the setup and honestly it sounds a little low. I will do the sub crawl later on bu positioning is tough in my setup as the TV and console are on a wall between two windows so placing it in front of those just caused crazy rattling. When I ran the setup I used a laptop tray and adjusted it to about ear height over the couch. Should I get an actual tripod and re run it ? We have a large sectional so I just moved it around that at various sitting points. And this may be a silly question but do you just put the tripod at the base of the couch where you sit or are you supposed to put in in the seat ? I'm still trying to learn as much as I can and want to make sure I am fully utilizing everything to its full potential. As you can see in the picture the windows are a huge pain. But the sub is actually between the console and front left speaker now and not in the corner.

Hi all - I've got my 2113 unit to accept the firmware update..but it froze again and once I manually powered it off I've not been able to power it back on since last night. I've left it unplugged for several intervals, including overnight. Nothing. Can't get it to come back. Help!
