so, what fixed it?

Audyssey calibration was performed and dynamic volume is set to Medium.

Any ideas?

Wifi connection shouldnt be a problem. I have 100/100Mb line and Netgear 3500l router, which is capable to stream FULL HD to my Boxee Box.

You're using an iPhone I presume? iPhone wifi is garbage, I've had problems with my 3GS, 4, and now my 5. They just don't seem to play nice with routers (I'll bet they work great with AirPorts) and the connection will randomly drop regardless of what you're doing with it.

Hi - I just want to confirm what I think I read and am experiencing.

I would like to attach a Chromcast stick to my Dennon 3313. I can cast Google Play Music from my phone to zone 1` but not to zone 2. I think that's because Zone 2 doesn't support audio from HDMI devices. Am I understanding that correctly?

Since I have all my music in the Google Cloud (in addition to local FLAC's), I'm trying to figure out how to get it to my deck via zone 2 on my Denon.

Correct, HDMI audio cannot go to Zone 2 on your receiver. The newer models (e.g. X4000) can do it though.

I can cycle the 3313 off/on and that usually fixes the problem, but it's just a pain in the ass that shouldn't be. Any suggestions or solutions?

Thanks,

Try changing up the order the devices are powered on ... first sequence that is generally recommended and works most often ... TV, wait a few seconds, AVR, wait a few seconds, and the finally the source (PS3).

It turned out to be a grounding problem that was fixed by running the coaxial through my APC H10 power conditioner. But in the process I disconnected and reconnected the component cables several times on the 2113CI. I recall when I first plugged the component cables in the picture looked a little off, but that was fixed by wiggling the cables around a bit. Today, however, the problem appears to be compounded, and the picture keeps dropping out when I connect the cables. Jiggling them around can get it back, but usually it's colors are off.

I tried using different cables with no success. I plugged it directly in to my tv (where it is connected presently), and the picture is perfect with no issues. Clearly, the receiver (which is a refurb, I think I know what the original problem was now) is having component problems. I should still be under warranty as Denon changed it to 1 year from 90 days, but really can't go without my receiver for the length it would take to repair it. Is taking it to my closest repair center (which is 45 minutes way), or mailing it to Denon, and being receiverless for the duration of the repairs my only options? I really don't want to go without a receiver, and love the sound I get out of the 2113CI.

Have you tried doing a soft reset (unplug for 10 min) or a hard reset (micro/network reset as noted in post #5 of this thread)? Otherwise, you would need to call the local repair facility to ask them to provide an estimate of turn around time. Generally, units shipped to the factory repair center, PanurgyOEM are returned within 1-2 weeks (often much quicker than the local repair centers).

Try connecting the Chromecast stick to one of the Monoprice branded splitters/converters such as the one below which should allow you to pass the HDMI audio to Zone 1 and the analog audio to Zone 2. smile.gif

I haven't done the resets as it seemed like a hardware issue, and I didn't want to redo the Audyssey setup, but I'll definitely try it tomorrow. The service center was a 7-10 day turnaround. It'd be difficult to go that long without a receiver.

If you are considering repair, you might as well try the reset first. smile.gif

Agreed. I think I'd live with the issue instead of live without the receiver though. It works, the component cables need to be plugged in just right to work though. If it got worse in the next 8 months I could always opt for repair then (thank goodness Denon upped the refurb warranty to a year).

If you purchased with a credit card, check with your card issuer as they may add a 2nd year of warranty for FREE (AMEX will for sure as will some MC/Visa too). smile.gif

Forgot about that, they do. I remember checking on it before I bought it. Thanks for the reminder.

For some reason, when I use Spotify / Pandora / AirPlay on my 1913 and 2113, I am not able to select PLII Music anymore, it defaults to PLII Cinema and I can change it off this setting using any remote. Can someone show me the magic way of doing this? (also - does it even matter? Are PLII Cinema and PLIIX Music essentially the same? I don't think they are, but I don't know for sure).

No they aren't the same. Cinema is going to be more center focused.

What happens when you push and hold down the Music button on the remote? What options appear on the tv screen?

I use Mac Book Pro. Until few days ago everything worked OK. Now it is loosing streaming signal. :S

I tried streaming music on another device (Boxee Box) and everything works ok. So problem must be with Denon Receiver.

Any chance you are using a wifi extender of any kind?
No. Denon is conected directly to router. Something else i noticed. Sometimes during airplay playback i see (i dont know how to say) disturbance on image on TV, like HDMI cable would be defective. Colour turns pink, image jumps and everything goes back to normal. But this doesnt happen when i watch or listen other sources. And HDMI cable shouldnt influence AIrplay playback.

Try resetting the router as well as doing a soft reset (unplug 10 minutes) of the AVR.

That certainly is a sweeping statement that I would challenge. I've had no problem using Airplay with my iPhone 4s and 5s using a router...

I said my experience. Different routers, different providers, I have ALWAYS had wifi drop outs with iPhones.

With Chromecast not an option for Zone 2.

I'm not trying to get AirPlay working. It works fine on zone 1 but how do I get AirPlay on Zone 2?

Additional back ground - I can play other things, like Internet Radio on Zone 2. I just don't know how to select AirPlay on Zone 2

You can't initiate airplay directly to zone 2. First fire up airplay in main zone and then select "network" as the zone 2 source and you should hear the airplay audio. At that point you can change main zone back to another source if you so desire.

Did you try the HDMI converter I suggested in my earlier post?

Hi - no, I appreciate the advice but I'm not interested pursing the Chromecast solution anymore, especially if it means buying a $60 converter to make a $35 device work biggrin.gif

So I'm trying something that is supposed to work. My understanding is I can run AirPlan on Zone 2. I just can't find any coherent instructions regarding how.

What about my post above?? I'd like to think that was pretty coherent smile.gif

Thanks - I got it working. I suspect my problem may have been at partially due to some flaky interaction using the Denon Android app and maybe even the Retune app to control iTunes

If, from the receiver, If I get AirPlay running on Zone 1, then switch Zone 2 source to Network, I get sound.

It works fine unless I try to do anything with the Denon or AVR-Remote app. Both seem really flaky. I guess I need to keep it simple and set it up from the receiver and just use ReTune to control the songs.

Hi I have a 1913 and recently encountered an issue where "Direct" mode is automatically being selected by the receiver. It previously was all setup with Audyssey and sounding just fine, automatically switching between Dolby and other sound processing signals as it seemed fit; then just the other day it has switched to Direct mode (while watching satellite tv), and no matter what I do, I can't seem to shake it out of that mode.  Is there a known reason why this is happening?

Thanks in advance - apologies for the noob question if its been asked and answered, I couldn't find it.

-Nick

Are you using a Quick Select to select the SAT audio? If yes, then reselect the mode desired and resave the Quick Select by pressing/holding the Quick Select button on the front panel.
Hi, the HDMI input for CBL/SAT doesn't seem to work right (always drops audio), but the DVD input does and is what I have my cable plugged into. Is there a way to default the AVR to automatically choose this option when I turn my TV on/off instead of TV audio? Thanks.
