Replace Audyssey Mic for Onkyo?

My buddy just bought a TX-SR604, and it came without the Audyssey mic. He did buy it open-box, so I'm not sure he's got a case with the retailer; does he have any alternative to the supplied mic? If he needs an exact replacement, what's the best route?

Thanks,
CD

CD,

I have an extra mic that is for my Onkyo 886. So if you can find out which Audyssey mic the 604 uses and it is the same you can have it. Awhile back there was a concern that some Onkyo owners received the wrong Audyssey mic and Onkyo sent me one free of charge. The one I have is silver and it is the tower style used for MultEQ XT. As it turns out I had the correct mic all along. Let me know.

Thanks Bill. I guess that's what they mean when they talk about karma.

As the 604 is over 6 years old, it used the original flat hockey puck style mic so the extra one that Bill has won't work as it uses a different calibration file than does the hockey puck mic. However, you can buy the correct mic MIC-5000 (#1B068MIC) from Onkyo directly. Just enter the model number TX-SR604.

Gotcha. Thanks anyway Bill; you still get the karma-points.

CD,

Not a problem. I had a feeling the mics might be different but thought it was worth a shot. Hopefully your buddy can find one cheap or as jd suggested contact Onkyo to get one.

The replacement is ~$15. He just bought a ~$500k house; I think he can swing it (but LOVES a bargain...re: can be cheap...lol. As such, he would have LOVED to have gotten yours for free. Thanks again for the offer)

I just bought an open box Onkyo TX NR709, no Audyseey Mic. Its the 2011 model. Anyone have a spare one that they don't need?

You might want to check your local area Best Buy/Magnolia stores as they will often have spare mics from their demo units in a drawer. Either the ACM-1H, ACM-1HB, or DM-A409 mics will work.

I also bought an open box 709 and no mic. I found a DM-A409 pretty cheap on ebay,, will that work fine?

Since the mic was omitted from the box, have your buddy do the obvious; contact the manufacturer and tell them the problem. I bet they would send one for free.
