two subs using one sub out

I have a 7.1 receiver, and I'm considering utilizing 2 subs. Will it be ok to use a y adaptor to get signal to both subs or will there not be enough voltage to do this? Also, if It does work, would i adjust one sub at a time? I'm thinking if I adjust one sub at a time then when i hook up the other it may change the voltage to the previously adjusted sub causing it to need to be readjusted. Any pointers on doing this?

Y adap will work. Run the test tone and set each to 72dB. You can assume I meant turn one off while you set the other

OK, I have one of the radio shack ones. The question i have is when you say "Test Tone" Are you talking about the basic test tone on my receiver, or do you mean a pink noise disc or something like that?
