Panasonic 2012-compatible 3D Glasses Thread - Page 3

Hi all.

Complete Noob to home 3D until today and had a TH-P50ST50A in the lounge for over a month...

Have any of you found suitable 3D glasses in sizes to fit youngsters?

Looking at the following link and searching for prices...
http://panasonic.com.au/Accessories/Other+accessories/Other+accessories/TY-ER3D4/Overview
Also, can anyone shed any light on the naming protocol or differences between the TY-ER3D4 and the TY-ER3D4MU?

Regards from down-under,
Dave

Wondering would it be worth editing the initial post with the confirmed working "Panasonic 2012-compatible 3D Glasses"?

I don't know first hand but I do know there should be a sku ending in "SM" for small like the "MU" for medium. Hope that helps.....

Just ordered a 55ST50 today and was reading through all of the posts regarding the glasses. Just wondering if anyone has tried the vizio full hd 3d glasses? They look to be designed the same as the Panny's but are far less expensive. From what I read from cnet reviews, if the glasses are marked "Full HD 3d" they should work on any active 3d set. I'm new to this so please don't blast me if I'm totally in the dark here. ;)I'd be willing to buy a set and see how they work if you think they would be compatible. Of course on Vizio's site it says the glasses will only work with certain models of Vizio. Any help would be appreciated!smile.gif

There are several different types of Full HD 3D active glasses, not all are compatible with all 3D active sets.
Samsung and Panasonic however this year agreed to make bluetooth active 3D glasses that are compatible between their respective 2012 models, but not necessarily with other manufacturers.
Samsung has a $20 model if cost savings is needed, also the Panasonic model can be had for less than 1/2 price on ebay often.

Joxer has a point regarding ebay, I've been following that too although it depends where you live as to how good a bargain you can grab...

I've also found that the USB ports on the ST50 will decode 3D side by side mkvs on a sidenote...

Regards,
Dave

Not to get off topic, but does the side by side have to be uncropped? I know certain devices have problems if any black borders are trimmed.

Yes the internal Panasonic media player can auto detect SBS and over/under 3D formats of mkv and mp4 video files if you select Auto2 in the 3D settings.
I have had no issues with several SBS 3D 1080p mkv and mp4 video files, however a few over/under 3D format video files sometimes the Panasonic TV will fall out of 3D mode for a bit.

The same thing happens if I play some free 3D titles on my cable system thru my HD-DVR box - and the cable system uses 720p over/under format for their 3D videos too.
Anyone else try playing 3D over/under format video titles thru a cable system or as a mkv or mp4 video file?

At first I was a bit miffed that the TV didn't come with the glasses but after seeing that Panasonic only offers the rechargeable kind I can see why they wouldn't want to include them due to the cost.

I went ahead and ordered the Panasonic RF glasses and these are MUCH better than the Samsung ones. First they are a little bit bigger and cover the eyes especially on the sides where the Samsung glasses fail. They are very light weight and after 5 minutes into the movie I completely forget I'm wearing them and I had no eye fatigue after watching HUGO which is highly 3D centric.

I had slight headaches after using the Samsung glasses and although I could get through a whole movie for the most part I would still get eye fatigue from start to end. I also saw more crosstalk on the Sammy's and very little on the Panasonic glasses.

I do wish Panasonic offered battery operated glasses but not just because I want to save money but the fact that rechargeable cells begin to lose their life and eventually become worthless.

Hi. Will you please tell me the model number of your glasses? I have a 65VT50 coming soon. Thanks.

I just got the Panasonic 55VT50, my first 3D tv. Holy moley. So far I have two pair of the 20 buck Samsungs and one pair of the Panasonic’s. They both work great, with the latter being more comfortable and a bit more immersive. I sit about 8 feet away.

I gotta say though, all this talk about ambient light and glare intruding on the experience just begs the question: Why on earth would anyone have their home theatre in a room that isn’t theatre ready? If you’re not watching in virtually complete darkness, then you’re cheating yourself of the theatre experience. ESPECIALLY a 3D experience, where you need to focus on the screen and nothing else. Maybe you should’ve bought an LED? If you have windows, get curtains. Kill all the lights, and for all you Panasonic 2012 plasma model owners, feast your eyes and ears on the most amazing picture and sound home theatre has to offer. I’ve watched Prometheus, Rio, and Adventures of Tin Tin on 3d bluray (rented from 3dparty.org, they’re in NY, I’m in NJ), the only word to describe the 3D image quality is “incredible”. cool.gif

I just purchased the Panasonic TC-P65GT50 a great TV! But what I found out was my family room was not theatre ready. I had to buy a new audio/video receiver(Yamaha RX-V673) because my old one did not have enough HDMI ports. I also had to get some upgraded HDMI cables(the cheap ones will work ...oh yeah if you plan on watching 3D make sure the HDMI cables are 3d compatable) I had the TV wall mounted (only way to go!...some problems accessing ports on the back of the TV) Now I am pricing motorizied room darkening blinds to seal the deal. So that $2400 TV purchase ended up costing me close to $4000. And after all of the I found out there is a glitch in ATT Uverse that causes intermitten sound problems when you set the Uverse set top box to surround. I am complaining my ASS off to ATT.... it does not happen all the time only in 5.1 surround transmissions...never on the blue rays. Now I have to buy 3D glasses does it ever end!!!!!
I don't know if everyone knows it yet but Best Buy does price match with Amazon or other established online stores. My TV listed at $3300 and my receiver listed for $600...got the TV for $2400 and the receiver foe $420....DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

Are 2012 Panny owners (VT50, etc) who want the best 3D experience sticking with the TY-ER3D4MU. Are there better glasses available at any price? At a value price (aside from the Sammy)?

Well, I tried them. Ordered the 2-pack for my 65GT50 TV, 3 months old. I have 3 pairs of the Samsung glasses and one of the official Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU, so I do know how to 'pair' 3D glasses, and those all work great. But I never could get these G5 glasses to synch up. They're going back.

I have a Panasonic 2012 model TV.... l use the Samsung SSG-4100GB 3D glasses $20 each at Best Buy. They do get the job done.....I like the fact that they take a battery and are light weight.
The Panasonic glasses are better built and filter out light better....but what happens when the battery won't take a charge?
I will probably get a pair of the Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU 3D glasses when the price goes down.

Wondering if it's usual to see Black Friday specials on the 3D glasses - TY-ER3D4MU ??

Yeah, anyone know where to get a crazy deal on the TY-ER3D4MU? I can't believe the MSRP on these is $80. I might be able to get them for just under $60 (price match) from Best Buy, but that just seems like way too much for a cheap piece of rechargeable plastic with bluetooth. I'd like a pair of those and a pair of SSG-4100GB (used "like new" Amazon prime $16.55).

I ordered some from Amazon but when I went back to the site I saw they were no longer offering them:
Code:
Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.

Any idea what this is about?

What about glasses with a L/L, R/R mode? I don't have a whole lot of serious interest in 3D. The occasional movie would be nice and maybe some ESPN 3D. What I would be really interested in is when playing split screen games being able to have whole screen view through glasses.
What options are available that would work with the GT50 if any?

Just have to say, one thing that really has kept 3D from taking off as well as I am sure manufactures wish it had, is the convoluted mess that is 3D glasses. Such a pain to try and know for sure what will work with a particular model of tv.

Amazon just dropped the TY-ER3D4MU to $50.97. I might go get a price match at BB. Keep thinking the price will keep dropping though.

Yeah, I held out too. Of course, the price on Amazon is back to $62. I could live with $40 for sure! Fingers crossed....

Haven't popped in here in awhile(actually forgot i had an account redface.gif ) ..Was doing a search here for the sammy's 20 dollar 4100's specs and found this thread..
I am waiting for my panny GT to be delivered and wanted to double check from first handers if the glasses would work .
Glad to see they do..
couple questions if i could..how is the 2D to 3D conversion ?Would love to watch football on sundays in some 3D but only if its watchable ..
Also ,correct me if i'm wrong but can't you use HDMI 1.3 cable for 3d ..It doesn't need to be 1.4 right ?
thanks all

I have a Panasonic GT TV 2012 and the Samsung SSG-4100GB glasses work fine. The 3D image on non 3D media is not that spectacular...it will only look as good as the scene allows. You will know it is in 3D but a lot depends on the camera angle, and what is in the scene. ........As for the HDMI I brought the best quality cables at the most reasonable price on ebay. It usually tells you if it will support 3D.

I managed to catch the Panasonic glasses at Amazon at the $50.97 price - surprised me. I bought two. I like them a lot and they fit well over glasses. TV is Panasonic VT50.

Hello so another Glasses related question.... How will these connect to the TV? Are they wifi or bluetooth?
Is there a base unit that connects to the TV? I ask because I have all the cable box's blue ray players behind
the wall the TV is mounted on ..... I cannot attach any box next to the TV... Thanks

The Panny glasses connect via bluetooth, no base unit, etc. They charge via USB. They have a disclaimer that you should only charge them via the TV's USB ports but I think that may be safe to ignore (unless there's some evidence to the contrary). Problem with charging via the TV USB ports is that TV must be on at the time.

I charged mine with a regular charger, but I think what they want is one that detects the full charge and cuts off the current. Some of the cheapo chargers included with other devices don't do this.
I purchased the Samsung SSG-4100GB glasses and the take a watch size battery. When the glasses connect via Bluetooth a little display pops up that shows the glasses are connected and it has a battery icon to show how much of a charge you have left. Does anyone know how to change the battery on the Panasonic glasses?
