I'd go with #5. Mainly because I know how good those speakers are because I have them, but also because they're the only ones listed that I've heard. Hsu makes great stuff and their customer service is excellent.

Axiom has a love hate relationship here and on other forums. Posts about them tend to start arguments that soon sink into all out war

In general most forum members will advise against the Axioms speakers at their MSRP as there are better options for the money.

Such as the Ascend 170s. YMMV

Great speakers. Their sound is a bit laid back for my taste, but everyone has different taste.

Aperion and Emotiva are a couple of other ID options in addition to Ascend.

well thanks everyone for your suggestions, i really do appreciate them.

here is the setup i went with (already have it all setup up):

marantz sr8001

Kef iq30 speakers

HSU stf-2 subwoofer

by the way is it a good idea to use the Audyssey microphone to setup a 2.1 speaker setup or is that not necessary?

also should i just mess with the bass and treble rather than the eq settings (leave the eq settings on default)?

thanks, oh and by the way if it makes any difference i listen mainly to hip hop, funk, and jazz.

hey i guys one more thing, i noticed a very very faint hiss sound from speakers when i have no music playing, seeing as this is my very first real audio setup im not sure whether the speakers should be absolutely silent (when no music playing) or if it should have some sort of low hiss or noise sound. and if they are suppose to be completely silent please let me know what i can do to fix this up.
