Mixing different AWG speaker wire

Hello,

I have a 7.1 setup with Pioneer SP-BS21's for the surround L/R, the SP-FS51's for the front L/R, the SP-C21 for the center and the SW-8 for the sub, paired with the Denon AVR-2112ci.

The surround back L/R are about 50ft away from the receiver so I used the monoprice 12AWG wire to connect them. Now I have some old 18AWG wire connecting the rest of the speakers.

My question is: is it OK to mix speaker wires of different gauges like this for optimal sound quality. Or should I switch the other connections also to 12AWG wire?

Also I read elsewhere that the speakers in matching positions should be connected with the same length wire. Since the AVR has Audyssey MultEQ XT for setup, would it really matter if I used 3 fit wire to connect the center channel while I use 7 ft wire for the front L/R speakers? Audyssey should automatically factor in any minute changes with differences in cable length, correct?

Thanks.

Using different gauge speaker wire is fine if you have significantly larger distance from your receiver to those speakers. It sounds like you are using the right gauge for the rear channels if they are 50 feet runs. It wont hurt your speakers if you use a different gauge for the rear and the front, so I wouldn't bother at this point swapping out cables unless the 18AWG wire is in poor condition. As for the length of the cable runs, they do not need to be the same length for F/C/L channels.

Yes. The key is to have the right gauge for the longer runs, and you do.

Correct. And, anyway, for all intents and purposes the signal lag over those extra four feet of wire would be infinitesimally small.
