TC-Sounds epic 12 Build

I want to build a 2 cu ft enclosure sealed with the epic 12 driver and the BASH 300 W amp. is there any reason to jump up to the 500w amp if i don't need extreme spl? isn't the difference between 300 and 500 w pretty small?

I always recommend the extra power if you can afford it, AND the speaker will still operate within its limits given the extra power.

ok. what will 500W give me in relation to the 300W? I have no qualms about getting the 500W if i need to but i want to know what i will gain by going with a 500W bash amp.

2db difference and you'll pass xmax at 10hz with a 500w amp.

So entirely pointless to spend 100 dollars extra on?

It depends if you want to maximize your build or not. The amps have high pass filters around 18hz, so you will never reach 10hz at any kind of real output level. You just have to decide if 2db headroom is worth $100, or if you want to boost the low end in the future will you wish you had the extra power.

if i want to boost the low end in the future, i might just upgrade to some really strong subs. maybe a lms ultra 18". This will not be in a huge space. like 1600 cuft. im building this because i gave my bic f12 to my parents for their ht and instead of buying another one, im going for a diy upgrade. the sub will be supplanting my infinity primus HT.

All depends on perspective...2dB is a small number looking at it one way, but 500W is what 66%? more power than 300W. $100 dollars will buy you some peace of mind that you are less likely to clip the amp. And we all know clipping is worse on your speaker than more clean power. Whether that's worth it to you, that's a personal decision.

ok, but is it not true that you 1000% more power to make a speaker sound twice as loud? i think, for my needs, this will fine. I did some math, at 100W,the sub will already be pushing around 100 some db. i doubt i will ever want it that high as i want to preserve my hearing. the highest it will ever go will probably be the low 90s.

build a ported enclosure and pic up 6-8 db around the tuning frequency.

small sealed builds are yesterday's news.

what if i dropped this into a bigger enclosure? 3.5cu ft? and isn't porting kind of tough for a first build?I also checked out some of the port lengths i would need to tune a ported box. unless i want a high tuning freq, the port would have to be incredibly long. like 2x the length of the box. might as well build a larger enclosure at that point.

ok, so i plugged in a model into winisd. for a vented enclosure, it said that tuned to 23hz, i would need a 13" long port that is 15" long and 4" in diameter. i can actually fit this into my design. ok. where can i get a pipe that is 15" long and 4" in diameter? EDIT: i found this on PE. Is it any good?

You can check home depot for pipe and elbows. How is the air velocity with a single 4" port? You want to keep at around 17m/s.

it's fine given i don't run it full blast. at full blast, it starts to chuff at 30hz.
