im trying to understand the projector calculator
i will get a 159" hp screen and a epson 5010
right now my projector is mounted at 17' the calculator says 21' throw distance but will it still fill the screen if i leave it at 17'

You mean the projector calculator I built in my signature?

15 feet and 5 inches is the minimum throw distance. So you should be fine to leave the projector 17 feet back for a 159" screen. The minimum throw is the number on the right of the slider, after you setup the screen size that is.

But the 5010 won't be bright enough, only 13 foot lamberts. You need to use a high gain screen or use a smaller screen.

Really I thought the 5010 was super bright. So the 5010 cannot project on a 159" screen? Because at 17' I'm at the closes throw range

What is the gain of your screen, and why such a huge screen...

It can do it in in Dynamic Mode no problem for the first say 250-1000 hours (anyone's guess how fast it will DIM), but the 3D will be a bit DIM even in the beginning (maybe ok at very beginning).
It will start around 18 to 22 fL in the near-D65 Torch Mode on this screen size.

After say 1000 hours, it will be tough and most likely start to get very DIM, but still watchable. These are estimates, but they are educated estimates.

I would get some gain if you can, preferably 1.2 or more.

I'm getting that big of a screen because my room is huge. 16' wide and 36' long. First row of seats are 15' then second 21'. Then a stand up bar behind that.

Are they custom cutting it for you, because they don't sell them that big I don't think.

It will plenty bright on a Da-Lite HP screen for sure.

I run a 5010 on 153 1.0 gain screen in a completely light controlled dark-walled room. I use Living Room mode and the lamp on ECO. Short throw distance of 15 feet 8 inches. Best combination of brightness and lower fan noise for me.

I will probably have to get a new bulb every 800-1000 hours but so be it.

On a HP screen, it will be plenty bright in Living Room mode. I think 159 inches is a standard HP size.
