Difference between DTS HD Master Audio and DTS HD Hi Res?

I'm listening to Queen Rock Montreal on Blu Ray and it's in a format called DTS HD Hi Resolution. I notice that my center channel doesn't output any sound. I have a Cream Blu Ray that's in DTS HD Master audio and it does. Is this just the way some DVD's are recorded? Whats the difference in the two formats? thanks!

Differences in mastering are not related to the audio codec used. It's not uncommon to see music being mixed with no center channel or reduced center.

DTS-HR is a lossy compression codec, DTS-MA is lossless. Whether there is any audible difference is an open question.

Rock Montreal, (both the DVD or Blu ray), has been talked about here and it's known that there is nothing on the center channell. So I guess it's really in 4.1

Oh OK, it still sounds very good for such an old recording! The cream Royal Albert hall one sounds absolutely amazing in my opinion!

Ok, same here. I thought there was something wrong with my queen rock montreak in blu ray. I was under the impression that it would sound better than the netflix stream option. But as soon I a poped the disc in it seemed lacking in punch. Then noticed no audio from center. I switched the audio in the blu ray to LPCM 2.9 Mbps and chose PLIIx codec on my denon 3313 for then native stereo and center worked. it sounded so much better than the dts hi res.

I also just got form amazon my blu ray copy of hungarian rhapsosy live in Budapest. Although the video quality is great like the rock montreal(both shot in 35mm film), the audio is the same dts-hd hi res with no center channel track.

Yeah, Have you listened to any of the Porcupine tree or Steven Wilson Blurays? Those are the ones that all others should be judged by!
