It's to educate everyone else. As ICE Director John Morton announced in a statement yesterday, "Law enforcement must continue to expand how it combats criminal activity; public awareness and education are a critical part of that effort."

"Public Awareness" and "Education." If after more than two decades of this enlightenment you still don't know the illegalities involved then you are new to planet earth.

The people it is aimed will ignore it anyways and the rest of us are unnecessarily inconvenienced. Such is wisdom of myopic law inforcement.

Put this stuff somewhere on the disc if you have to by law but don't force it on us with every viewing. Same goes for previews (theater and video related). But nobody listens to the public.

What the heck, what's another near 1/2 minute with BD load times still an issue (at least in my view).

Many blu-ray players have a "quick start" feature. With these new unskippable warnings, what's the point? Might as well start the disc, go pop some corn, make a phone call, put in some laundry, write your next novel, then come back and enjoy the movie.

I'm actually more annoyed by unskippable, endless previews and trailers (even if we can fast-forward them) than anti-piracy warnings...

True. Just experienced it last night. Watched the 3D trailers, then bam some new warning screen before the movie starts.

All this stuff does is piss me off. Punish everyone for the sins of a few.

They even have anti-pirating commerials in the theatres too. Sure, target the folks paying for your product. That makes total sense.

What's more curious... is why this never happened with CDs. Think about it. How come they never stuck something on the start of a CD that you had to listen to before you could play any other tracks on the CD for that session?

I always find it funny that in order to help "promote" their product with reviews for stuff they send me, I'm forced to break the copy protection because I can't take screen shots otherwise.

God forbid someone takes a dozen images of a two hour film.

(Note: I know why the screen shot issue to came to pass, but it's ridiculous)

Whee, reminds me of PC games where by and large the pirated copy was the less annoying of the choices between pirated and commercial release...

Why not just have the cashier at Best Buy/Wal*Mart/Target or the UPS/USPS/FedEx delivery guy slap me in the face and read me a rant on the troubles of media piracy before letting me buy/receive the movie/CD?

They should make BD Live mandatory and have adds play in the black bars of letterbox movies.
That would teach us a good lesson.

This is infuriating. With DVD's it was relatively easy to show off my system to a friend and slap a half dozen titles in quickly for a scene on each film.

With Blu Ray, it is a nightmare. Cannot be done. So this means I will be forced to purchase FEWER releases and buy a hacked Blu Ray player that will not force me to watch such crap.

I agree with your point about crap like this possibly translating into fewer sales. Currently I purchase all my BD discs for a couple reasons, one is I don't have a BD drive in my PC, two is I don't have a program to rip BDs(only DVDs). If it gets to the point that I'll have to in excess of a minute to just get the movie going it will probably prod me into taking care of point one and two, then it will be off to Redbox or even NF and I won't look back Oh and those two unskippable warnings won't deter me one bit

Next they will want to strap electrodes to our privates to educate us. I am more inclined to believe it's revenge for the police state piracy laws they pushed being rejected (except in Canada).

They need to catch one of these guys in a public forum, and just flat-out ask him "Why is it that paying customers are punished by blah blah BS, when it's well known that the pirates never see it?"

And then ask the audience if there's a single person in the crowd who appreciates those messages or has "learned" anything from them.

They seem to occasionally get into conversations with these people, and yet the press always manages to avoid asking the questions that their audience actually wants them to ask.

P.S. The MPAA's playbook -- much like the RIAA's -- is a case study in how not to respond to the broad issue of content theft and piracy. They seem hellbent on shooting themselves in the foot over and over until they're completely lame.
