VSX-821, Polk Monitors, many cheap subs

Greetings all. The title is what I currently have in my system. I started on a budget and you all helped me pick out a VSX-821, 2-Polk Monitor 50s, 2-Polk Monitor 30's, and a CS1 Center channel. I already have a rag tag assortment of subwoofers. (2-10's, 1-12)

While I am generally pleased with my set-up, as always, I'm thinking about bigger and better. The first thing, however, is I just plugged it all in and started Playing. I have no SPL meter, and generally no idea how to set-up my receiver (infact, I didn't even know if was possible).

Before I go and spend some money on new stuff, could someone walk me through setting up cross overs, and generally just getting my system more dialed in to what I want to hear in a movie? I feel like I'm talking out my ass here, because I'm not 100% knowledgeable on this stuff. How do you program a VSX-821?

Do you have the owner's manual? That'd be the first place I'd start.

Does the 821 have MCACC? (I believe it does, but do not know for certain) - that'd probably be a good tool to use.

Do you have any sort of measurement equipment? That'd probably be required to accurately "see" what you're trying to adjust.

The VSX-821 comes with a mic on a 20' cable which plugs into the front of the receiver. Check your manual...the receiver will calibrate itself (speakers...) using that mic. I bought an -821 this past fall, and love the receiver. It's my 2nd AVR and replaced a perfectly good 5.1 that was 12 years old; also a Pioneer sporting an Optimus (Radioshack) nameplate. Just wanted the newer HD audio codecs that come on the Blu-ray discs!
