Every time I restart or power up my desktop pc with hdmi cable plugged into my pc and the tv, I get the "No signal detected" error message on the tv. So I called Panasonic hotline and the only solution they gave me was to unplug the hdmi cable before I boot up or restart the pc and wait until windows loads up, then plug hdmi cable back to pc or tv. The rep said it didn't matter whether I disconnected the tv or pcI hdmi cable.
I have all of my connections (directtv, ps3, desktop pc) plug into my reciever. I have also tried to plug my pc straight into the tv's hdmi port and have the same issue.
I have the resolution set to 1920x1080 and 60 hertz on the pc. I have tried 24, 29 and 30 hertz.
Does anyone else have this issue or a workaround? It's very inconvenient to have to unplug the hdmi cable each time my pc boots up. My 2006 Pioneer 50 inch plasma never gave me this issue. Although, I realize the I am comparing a $3000 tv to a $750 tv when bought new, I figured these things were standard features on all new tvs.

What type of video card do you have? Are your drivers up to date? I do not have this issue with the TV on my system using a Radeon 6950 and the latest drivers. In fact, my card auto detects my TV in the bios and outputs to it correctly (and my monitor simultaneously) even though I have double output disabled in windows (it disables after I get to windows and it loads those settings automatically). Do you get any output in the bios if your TV is on and you have your TV's input set to your computers hdmi?

Make sure you have it set up correctly to output. If you are using dual monitors, make sure you use the command WindowsButton+P to set the correct output method in windows. Depending on how new your card is, it should be auto detecting a signal and outputting in the bios screen. Even if you only have one monitor, you can use WindowsButton+P to cycle through the outputs blindly until you get a picture (you have to press P twice while holding the windows button).

Wow, reading this comment I didn't think in a million years that's what the pixel orbiter did. Indeed, turning that option off fixed my issue and it centers correctly now. Thanks.
So now my question is this: Is it safe to have the orbiter off? I'm getting about 2 lines of pixel shift for each orbit which seems to take around 1 minute, and sometimes it chooses the same position on its random switch. I'm worried about the edge of the screen (the ~2 rows/columns of black pixels) becoming a burn in problem.
Basically, as long as I'm mindful to not game on this thing for 5 hours straight, would leaving the pixel orbiter off be alright?
Edit: I have to say, I've changed my opinion on this TV now. One of the biggest things that was bugging me at the start of this was that I just could not get this thing to scale correctly my PC input and my PS3. That was driving me bonkers. Now that the issue has been solved, and I got the colors to where I finally like them, this was a pretty awesome buy. Just goes to show how asking questions, spending tons of time fiddling, and getting some help can really change your experience. I don't think I'm going to return it now and I'll probably just live with the green blob defect since it's really not that bad on my set.

I have had mine off since day 1. The panel still gets image retention, but I'm not sure if pixel orbiter would be of much help. Didn't think it would move the gaming huds too far around.

Thank you,

Nothing else is needed to have the TV set up right out the box. But if you want to use hdmi than you will need to purchase 1 or 2 since there is none in the box.

Hello. I'm a bit of a newbie, so please excuse me if I'm using the wrong terminology for some things.

I just got the Panasonic TC-P50U50, and I've been trying to get it set up today. When I played a 4:3 DVD on it, the picture was stretched. So I tried to change TV's aspect ratio to 4:3, but it just cut off the sides of the picture instead of shrinking the width. However, when I watched a standard definition channel, the 4:3 aspect setting worked correctly (shrinking the width instead of cutting off the sides). I was using an upscaling DVD player, so I suspect that when the source video is 480i, the 4:3 aspect setting works correctly, but when the source video is 1080i, it cuts off the sides. If my theory is correct, is there anyway to fix this problem?

Guys

I need some advice here. I have never owned a plasma tv before and I'm most reluctant about watching the tv in the daytime. This TV would be placed in a room with windows that do not have curtains but do have roman shades (like mini-blinds) that are down 90% of the time. The windows are only on 1 adjacent wall and the windows receive afternoon sun.

When the reviews state that the brightness is affected and washed out at what degree and what room brightness does that occur?

I will also state that I'll be watching 75% of my tv at night without overhead lighting.

thanks all!

Another settings question here. My main input for my pu54 is a ps3 and I notice on games I can never get it calibrated correctly. For example on mass effect 3 calibration you're supposed to adjust the settings until you see a figure in both a white box and a dark box. If I have full range rgb set on the tv, I can only see the figure in one box or the other, I can never see both no matter how I adjust the game gamma or the tv settings. If i set the rgb to non-standard then I can see both. I was under the impression that with a great contrast ratio this shouldn't be an issue. Anybody else has the same problems as me?

I've had this TV for about a month now and it sits right next to two windows. I don't really have any complaints about the picture "washing out". To me the major issue is reflection on the TV. There is significant reflection on this TV and I notice it more where lights in the room can be seen reflected on the TV. This is more pronounced in a night/dark setting.

Hello Everyone!! I just set up my U54 and watching Blue ray DVD was excellent. However my Direct TV signal is not up to par with the old Olevia set it replaced or my Sammy in the living room. I am feeding through a Onkyo NR-515 but it worked well on the Olevia . The picture looks more like SD then HD. I changed settings in custom mode to CNET settings as described in an earlier post with the exception of the 3:2 pull down to yes. This is greyed out. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Setting it for limited range / rgb non-standard is the right thing to do. Youd only set it for rgb full if it were connected to a computer monitor.

Hey guys just picked this unit. Vey nice! I am having issues with using the remote with my PS3 and Netflix every function works great except exiting apps on the PS3. Like Netflix and Vudu.

I hate having to grab the ps3 game remote to exit an app on the ps3 when everything works fine. I tried exit and return but they don't do it.

Any help would be sweet

That's the price I picked mine up for. I'm digging the picture. I have to say though, I have a 65" Mitsu DLP and I very surprised at how well it compares to the plasma. Obviously, it can't touch the Panny's black level, but the Mitsu has a nice sharp picture. Anyway, I'm glad I bought my Panny.

thanks for the reply,

My gpu is radeon hd 4600. I've update the drivers to the newest ones. I am not using dual monitors. The TV is my monitor for my desktop.

With the hdmi connected with my desktop pc into the TV, nothing appears except the error message. I get the the same error message with hdmi connected with desktop pc into av receiever and the receiver going out and into the TV. Bios does not appear on the TV screen for me and I do not hear the hard drive clicking to boot up windows. I don't think that windows even boots up. I am running windows 7 64 bit. I only get the error message on screen.

Initially, all I did was unplug the hdmi cable that was going out from my av receiver into my old TV out and plugged it into the U50. I did not touch any seIttings for other cords connected to my setup. Then I took an different hdmi cable and connected it directly from the TV into the computer, with the same results.

I tried the WindowsButton+P and set it to computer only, with same results after reboot.

I think that my computer is not recognizing the TV as a monitor during bios and as a result, windows does not load. If the hdmi is unplugged, bios loads up and windows loads up. Only windows will recognize the TV as my monitor, not bios. Also, I went into bios and changed the halt on errors from all to none except keyboard. It didn't help.

Anyone else thing 1080i ends up looking better than 1080p? I know 1080p is usually at 30fps and 1080i at 60, because of that, things appear slightly smoother even though they're interlaced / deinterlaced.

Anyone else?

No, unless the content is a crappy bluray transfer, a 1080i bluray will look better. But never against a true 1080p transfer.wink.gif

Bought a Panasonic TC-P60U50...waiting for it to be shipped. Got square trade warranty for 4 years + 1 yr from Panasonic. Just never bought a expensive TV, nor have I dabbled with a Plasma Set.

I've been pcgaming/tv watching on a Asus 27inch monitor for the past 3 years....I'm sure I will be blown away by the Picture Quality.

I still need to get a blue ray player, thinking of oppo (*drool* jk) ,but if anyone recommend one from amazon or something that be great.

I currently have a Yamaha RX-A2000 Receiver and a 12" FV12 Direct Servo subwoofer, and 3 speakers (l/r/center) 2400 from Atlantic technology (meh good center tho, and great vocals though).

Anyways I've been missing out on a decent TV, decided to jump on the recent sales. I was looking for a great looking dumb TV. I didn't need 3D, or extra hdmi slots, a smart tv with applications. The wifi would've been nice however.

Time to read this entire thread. eek.gif (still not has bad as the Yamaha Rx-Axxxx thread lol)

Oh, okay... I thought it was some special designation for a thread or post and was going bats trying to find out what it meant.

That said, there is a lot of information here on this model and plasma displays in general I use it as a "reference" myself.

Welcome and good luck with your new display!

Signing in guys. Just picked up a U50 at BBY and expect the UVerse installers on Friday at which point it'll be powered up smile.gif

I'm moving the VT50 upstairs to the theater/game room and putting the U50 in the living area downstairs. Anything I need to be aware of? Any particular settings I should have a heads up on? Hoping this set does an adequate job downstairs smile.gif

has anyone succesfully entered these settings in the service menu?
are the R-DRV,
R-Cut
G-Cut etc...settings the white balance settings? and which correspond to WB high and low?

http://reviews.*******************.com/panasonic-plasma-tv/panasonic-u50-picturesettings
Note: One of the disadvantages of the TC-P50U50 and TC-P50UT50 is that they do not have advanced picture setting menus to allow you to ramp up the color. We do not advise trying the service menu, however you may be able to use the service menu white balance controls to achieve similar results. For example, if an owner of this TV was to take the remote control and press and hold down the volume control button while pressing the info button 3 times you might be able to access a white balance control through the service menu. We have not calibrated the TV through the service menu, but if we had, we would suggest the equivalent service menu settings to equate to the following 2 point white balance settings:

W/B high R +7
W/B high G 0
W/B high B +16
W/B low R +7
W/B low G 0
W/B low B +5

I entered similar settings into my service menu. I do not have a meter so who knows if I am any farther from d65k, but what I was really aiming for was to get rid of the nasty green tinged looking screen, and bumping up the R and B a few clicks seemed to have helped.

Hey guys,

I about to pull the trigger....buuuuuut

I was messing with the settings at a Fry's and couldn't find where to increase the refresh rate up to 600Hz. I'll be using that for watching sports and playing games.

I see on the panny website that its only on 'cinema mode' ..... is this right?

I just want to make sure I have the ability to turn it up and down depending on what I am viewing.

Let me know, owners....thanks!

600hz refers to sub-field 10 60hz zones, plasma's refresh at 60 hz that cant be changed, they are inherently better at motion interpolation tho you shouldnt have any problems. Some of the other models in the 2012 line have a motion smoother feature but it creates artifacts in most cases. Not sure if the U50 has that.
