Has anyone ever hung a fixed frame screen from the ceiling?

Hey all, I've got a new Epson 8350 mounted in my ceiling and I'm getting tired of watching on a wrinkled, wavy screen. Due to having a strangely shaped basement, I am fairly set on needing an acoustically transparent (AT) screen. Due to budget concerns, I'm almost set on the 106in Fixed Frame Matte White AccuScreen Soundscreen. I would be putting the screen right in front of a sizeable alcove and plan on having the speakers behind the screen at ear level. I do not want to build a fake wall, so my thinking is to hang the screen from the ceiling. Something like this or this. Does anyone on this fine forum have any experience with the fixed frame Accuscreen or hanging a fixed frame screen in general?

TLR - Do you know anything about Accuscreens or hanging a fixed frame screen?

You could hang with wires but I chose to use a 1/2" plywood sheet that is 132" wide by 18" deep that I mounted to the ceiling joists with 2 large braced L brackets. I covered the front of the plywood with black felt and mounted the screens mounting track to the plywood at the desired height. The felt matched the screen frame and it actually looks good. The bottom of the screen is braced off of the wall behind but that is optional. My screen is 130" diag Seymour AT and there are some pics in my Build Thread linked in below.

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply RMK. I read your massive tome of a thread and didn't see any pictures of how you mounted it, but you did get me thinking about Seymour's Center Stage XD. One of my concerns was lack of rigidity of the Accuscreen when floating, but if I make my own frame I can be certain that it will support itself. For anyone else interested, Seymour has a great page about making a DIY screen and using their materials.

Hanging from eye bolts is done on a regular basis. Most manufacturers offer eye bolts in the frame for this. Keep in mind your screen would be moved by air flow very easy. Enough sub, would probably move it also.

Thanks Mike. That is the info I was looking for with regards to the Accuscreen Soundstage, but I haven't been able to find any info indicating it accepts eye bolts. I hadn't really thought about the screen swaying, but if I see that happen I can always anchor it to the floor somehow. Do you guys sell any AT screens in that price range?

Not at that price point.
