Official LG 47LM8600/55LM8600 Owners Thread - Page 32

Picked up the LG AKB73615336 remote off ebay the other day for $13. Everything works fine except there is no way to get to the App Page. Pressing the Premium button on the remote does nothing and pressing the home button acts like I pressed the menu button.

Has anyone resolved the LED light bleed issues from the top left and right corners of the TV? Its starting to get really annoying and its highly noticeable during movies with black box borders. Has anyone called LG and got them to resolve the issue?

They can't resolve it unless they replace the panel.

If you are thinking of a software fix which would instruct different display settings for the affected areas... unlikely as well.

Just return it for a replacement if you are able to (still within retailer's return period).

But would LG replace the panel for the light bleed issue? Was anyone successful in that?

Both of the TVs I was comparing arrived yesterday: the Samsung 46ES7500 and LG 47LM8600. I set them up side by side, tinkered with settings on both for SD and HD broadcasting and Blue ray movies - Wrath of the Titans was what I used in 3D. To be honest I can't see a major difference between both. Both need proper calibration to achieve best results. For gaming on PS3 I tried black ops 2 and fifa 13, no lag on the LG at all with 3D gaming too on black ops using HDMI 1.4 cable - small thing: when I switch on the PS3 the Samsung switches to it but not the LG, don't know why maybe a setting on the LG. For 3D the active glasses for the Samsung produced sharper images as expected but I couldn't stand them more than a few minutes due to eye strain and discomfort. I watched a few demos on the LG and 20 minutes of wrath of titans in 3D and was willing to finish the film as it was a better experience overall, comfortable and I didn't notice the drop in resolution. Images were still sharp, clear and no clouding. LG wins in 3D for sure. The viewing angle of LG is much better than Samsung, colors and black levels don't wash out easily. Samsung images could be much more brighter but too bright for home viewing. I think the highest brightness levels will not be used at all. The interface, with magic remote is much better with the LG and faster than Samsung hub, which gets really slow sometimes when accessing any online content. Sound is way better on the LG, much deeper and clearer. I read about the problems of playing blu ray movies at 1080/24p but I tested 2 blu ray movies there were no problem, and played perfectly. Black levels and contrast were similar but I think I need to do further comparisons in that area to see which shows more details in dark scenes. For motion handling I didn't notice any difference, in the same scenes there is some judder on both sets, so they even out.

For the Samsung the motion and voice control are not usable at all so its just wasted money and the smart interface is good in most basic stuff but for web browsing its sluggish not usable and cant install too many apps as you have only free ~600 mb but for the LG you have 2GB! So for Samsung I feel I'm paying for smart features I will use much more on the LG as its generally faster and easier to use like web browsing which is much better on LG and that justifies why Samsung are promoting their evolution kit for $200-300 but how come LG's interface is faster with the same dual core so seems to be a rip off for me.

I have to decide which to return. My only complaint so far is that stupid light bleed at the edge which I don't see on the Samsung and appears only in dark movies activated when anything bright pops up on the screen, but is that a reason to return the TV for ~30% of my viewing! Will that light bleed haunt me for the duration of this TV set at home! Tough call...maybe I need to continue further comparisons....however I feel I'm trying to justify why not going with the Samsung as it seems a hugely popular TV from the stores I go to and reading online forums but that maybe a silly argument anyway!

i just got a new tv, lg 47lm8600 which so far is great with one problem....audio lag.

we are using (for now) a zvox 425 soundbar which we have had for several years and really like. the problem is that the zvox has no digital audio in, and the lg tv has only digital audio out. our complete setup is simple: comcast digital hd cable box, sony bx-57 bluray player, the tv, and the zvox. right now we have the hdmi from the cable box and the bluray into the tv with analog audio out from both the bluray and the cable box into the analog inputs on the zvox. so far i haven't found any settings that eliminate some pretty serious audio lag. some channels are worse than others.

is there any way to eliminate the audio lag with this setup? i am thinking i may need a new soundbar with digital audio input. expensive solution but it would solve the problem as i could just run the hdmi from cable and bluray into the tv and run a digital audio out to the (new) soundbar. i'm hoping there is a solution that doesn't involve spending $300 on a new soundbar...

I can't help you with the connection but if you do wind up getting a new sound bar the Vizio S4251W which should be out in a few months looks really nice. I have last years and use HDMI Arc and it sounds good but I sure would like to upgrade to this new one.

thanks, but i can't wait a few months and only want one or two pieces in this setup (ie, sound bar plus maybe a sub at most). i'm going to try a digital to analog converter and see how that works.

I had a Samsung ES8000 and took it back due to the poor off angle viewing and I thought the black levels were poor for a $2200.00 television. I am now seriously looking at the LG LM8600 also, can you post some pictures please so I can see how she looks ? There is not a dealer in my town that has this model, so I would have to order on line without seeing it in person. Thank you !!wink.gif

Hi, how do I change the video setting for Apps? For example, I would like to disable TruMotion for YouTube. I can to this for other inputs but not Apps. Tried LG customer support but they have no clue.

question--we seem to be getting occasional 'jumpiness' on a few channels with our new 8600. not terrible, but i'm wondering if i can do anything in settings to mitigate the issue. thx.

I have the same when compared to the Samsung ES7500 which doesn't have it! frown.gif Happens mainly on broadcasting though.

I really wanted to like the LG, the smart interface and apps were so much better than Samsung, the viewing angle was awesome. I loved the remote too.

The samsung is not without it's own issues.... my last set has horizontal banding that is noticeable on vertical panning shots, lesser of two evils I suppose and to my eye has more of a smoother film like appeal with deeper blacks and better motion control. The LG, to my eye was a tad more sharper...

One other deciding factor to me was difference in build quality... I noticed in three different stores the LG floor models all seemed to have some sort of issue. The samsung just seemed higher quality to me and many store reps told me the percentage of LG sets returned were higher.
Conclusion of my comparison is the Samsung picture shows more details especially in facial close ups, wrinkles appear more sharper, can't get that level of detail with LG, tried all settings and calibration but the HD pictures of the Samsung show striking sharp details unless I'm missing something on the LG! But 3D is way better on LG, don't like active glasses at all.

Noticed the same thing... although only if the source is true HD or close... for some reason I thought the LG upscaled movies a bit better but that may have just been me. I loved the LG and in some ways I kinda wish I would have tried another panel but in the end I felt the quality compared to Samsung just wasn't there.

I, too, have been trying from my Galaxy S III (GT-I9300) running 4.1.2 and my HTC One X (S720E) running the same - no luck.

My latest calibrations settings gave me very decent picture quality compared to the Samsung and in some cases better. Considering all other positives of the LG I may keep it, as no tv is perfect anyway, however I noticed both tv sets don't read mkv files from plex! Need to work on that....
All things egual I couldn't live with the bad flash lighting on the LG... if you watch any movies at night it will drive you nuts... a good test to try is watching Chernobyl Diaries in low light, the dark scenes were completely washed out on the LG...

the samsung had a small amount of flash lighting as well but only when viewing 3D.
Also MKVs played fine for me... although with the samsung I prefer using plex with airplay to apple TV... their smart hub app is garbage.

Was gonna watch chernobyl diaries but read reviews it was terrible. I will test both TVs with that movie as another final conclusion. I noticed virtual surround on the LG has no effect at all. Just to confirm, so you can 'stream' mkv files from plex ?

Yes both played MKV from plex although the Samsung had a few issues with some file types but that was with the smart hub app which I don't tend to use... Plex for ipad is awesome, just airplay to apple TV... I've found the quality much better as well... the black levels aren't great using the built in app.

Keep in mind though the file may not be an actual MKV file, the extension might be wrong.

I'm sure it's 3D settings. Check 3D is activated by pressing the button on the remote.
Thanks for reply.

I have pressed the 3D button and tried the different options but to no avail.

The dvds did come with red blue glasses but i assumed they would work on the smart tv.

Do all 3D movies need to be blue ray as well as 3D ?

Yes! You have to use Blu-ray 3D movies and the Cinema 3D glasses that came with the set. Using DVD's with red/blue glasses explains why you are seeing "a red / green haze and blur round them".These glasses will not work. The 3D on these sets, when setup correctly, is fantastic.

So anyone know why when you hit the 3d button there are like 5 different options to choose? I can't see why anyone would choose anything other then the first 2d-3d one. Every other option just makes the screen look crazy.

I have no clue what all those boxes are for but converting 2D to 3D looks like crap anyway so I didn't bother investigating it any further.

australian firmware is 04.10.11 the US website has it at 04.31.30

That's a hell of a lot of updates in front of us Aussies. What, if any implications would there be if I applied the US firmware?

Thoughts?
