Because like every third thing in Australia can kill you. They don't have as much time as we do. tongue.gif

I think the first Iron Man is a classic, one of the very best comic book hero movies ever made. Although I agree that neither of the next two entries in the franchise was quite as good as the original (What else is new?) I liked both quite a lot. I gave Iron an 3 9 Stars out of 10, as I had Iron Man 2 before it. What can I say? I like just about anything Downey does, a lot.

Has he ever given a bad performance? He has that particular gift that, once you've seen him play a character (not just Tony Stark), you can't imagine someone else in that role. He's great. smile.gif

Now I'll agree with that for the most part. I've missed some of his work in his "darker" days but he definitely gets the absolute most out a role. The Stark character is just one of those rare roles that he could really sink his teeth into.

gwsat...assuming a universal view of your scale 9/10 for IM3, for me it was more of a 8/10 with 9/10 moments if I can say that, lol. And that has little to do with what I thought the Mandarin character should or shouldn't be. A big part of how I personally assess the quality of a movie is how often I'll view it on BD at home. Before purchase I'll ask "How often will I pull this out and watch it?".

We don't really disagree about Iron Man 3. To me even an 8 is an outstanding grade and deciding the difference between that and 9 is about as subjective as anything can be.

I didn't buy Downey as Sherlock Holmes. Maybe because I read all the books. Benedict Cumberbatch, though... he nails it, even transposed to modern day. He was a pretty good Star Trek villain too.

As much as I love Downey in everything, including his Sherlock Holmes performances, I agree that Cumberbatch's performances as Holmes in Sherlock are even better. In fact, I prefer Jonny Lee Miller's performances as the Great Man in Elementary too. I realize this may be apostasy for those Downey fans who are as devoted as I, but there it is. smile.gif

I never met an Aussie I didn't like. And that's saying something because I don't like a lot of people. tongue.gif

As to the croc attack... see, this is what happens when you drink too much beer around croc-inhabited rivers. Oink, let this be a lesson to you. biggrin.gif

I've just finished watching this at home and loved every bit of it. I knew this will happen watching it the second time I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Pq and Aq was awesome everyone, crank it up you will all enjoy it. Funny thing is my blu ray copy at the back states it has 1:78:1 while actually the whole movie is in scope 2:40:1.

You're right...it's hard to top The Avengers.

Watched my copy last night. While I liked it in the theater, I liked it even more at home. And I didn't even have any Vegemite and Fosters.tongue.gif

Watched the BD tonite.

Although I saw this movie at the cineplex, I had forgotten how much humor was in it.

Plenty of LFE and Rock 'em, Sock 'em robots to keep everyone happy.

3 outta 4 Knock Their Blocks Off superheroes.

Finally picked it up last night myself along with Star Trek: Into Darkness. I saw it once in the theater but am interested to see how a second viewing at home will make me feel any better about it. Not that it was bad, it just didn't seem as good to me as the first two. I'm also kind of hum drum about viewing it because my I don't have my home theater built out in my new house yet. So I'll be roughing it watching it on the wall mounted display in the family room. wink.gif

BTW, anybody know why this disc set is so expensive? $22-$24 for the 2 disc set didn't sit very well with me.

Checked online and it did mention that it was in store only with no price given. Both are basically across the street from each other and on the way home from work. Done. Thanks Oink!
