I now return you to the thread about the Alfred Hitchcock box set - why don't you try posting about THAT.

The point is that provided your PC (or beautiful iMac) and TV are reasonably similarly calibrated, then there's no problem using the caps to judge the quality of the disc. I don't think that's unreasonable to point out.

You can't stop, can you, which is, you know, trollish behavior, since you've made your point and I've made mine. I explain the point again, but this thread is about something else.

So touchy, over a simple and perfectly civil reply.

Imagine if someone had actually said something inflammatory.

Jeez.

I now return you to the Hitchcock box set and I will once again try to be stronger about not responding to the trollish baiting.
I was referring to you. But I think you know that. Perhaps you would do well to just go read a book or watch a ball game. Getting all uppity on the internet is not a quality use of time.

Amazon shipped mine last night.

Wow. Not the slightest hint of self-awareness. That is amazing.

Anyway, I'll probably end up getting the UK set again for the price. I already have North by Northwest.

I think you expect way too much

The Saboteur caps I have seen in the following are the most impressive of the collection perhaps, if you look hard you might spot some slight dark EE, but it is Universal after all.

^ Hey look it's not a beaver site, so much for half-ass theories.

Costco is selling the set for $164... if anyone is interested..
While I was buying Notorious for $8 it occurred to me that it seems three studios disgorged Hitchcock BDs around the same time. Am I missing something?

$99 AUD at JB HiFi http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvd-genres/horror-thriller/alfred-hitchcock-masterpiece-collection-blu-ray/669982 for the 14 film version - cheaper than Amazon UK

Cheers

I hit that. Saved a few bucks even over Super Saver shipping with Amz UK. Thanks.

There's a film about Hitchcock (with Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren) due out a little later this year, which premiered a few days ago at AFI Fest. (Trailer)

I have been reading Robert Harris's comments at HTF on the movies as he has watched them and these movies are hit and miss (some look quite good, and some have some obvious issues). That said, I have to believe this is the best we are going to get for a long time. I was going to hold off, then I found a deal for the set for $99 + 13 for shipping and then $10 off that smile.gif

I can't complain. 15 movies @ $103 is $6.86 per movie. For Blu-Ray.. If I thought there would be a better alternative out there, I would have held off, but I just don't see it. And with streaming and digital downloads becoming more prevalent I expect the quality to get worse, and you get no special features, etc.

I'd say that this probably will be it during my lifetime.

The new Marylin Monroe flick I guess explains the sudden release of the films she was in. Still, MGM/FOX/WB(?) did not release the original Thing from Another World for another remake.

It's about $12 cheaper but the packaging is atrocious compared to the UK set. I'll pay the extra $12.

I wish I hadn't ordered this from Amazon UK. They shipped it a few weeks ago with no tracking information, and it never arrived. Meanwhile, the price dropped on the US version.

You mean you have given up on it arriving?

No problems with ordering from Australia. Got it quickly, and it appears to be identical to the UK set.

I have seen items from Amazon UK take as much as 3 weeks or so to arrive. I just got my set with the deluxe case yesterday. It was more expensive but the packaging and extras are gorgeous. Not for everyone but for a nutcase collector like me, perfect! tongue.gif

I have had orders from the US take two months even though I am close to the border and places I ordered from were close to the border. One of the reasons I avoid doing such things.

My Amazon UK order also hasn't arrived yet. The estimate was for last week so I expect it anytime now.

Yes, but what do you do when something you want isn't available any other way? There are items that I have bought from outside the U.S. that just aren't available here and probably never will be.

The Fingerhut deal ($99.99) was/is back in stock this morning and I finally got one! It's shown in-stock for more than an hour now.

OMG I'm enjoying Hitchock flicks on Blu-Ray. It's like re-experiencing them all over. (Especially as I have a big projection screen these days). I watched Notorious last night and was in total awe of the directing, writing, acting, cinematography and the generally
beautiful presentation on Blu-Ray.

I've been through most of them ( I had five days in a row off) and am happy generally with how good the look. I'd never seen Rope,Sabatour, Shadow of a Doubt or Marnie before so it's an even bigger treat.

You can thank MGM rather then Universal for the nice Notorious transfer. Did I mention I bought it for 8 bucks?

Granted getting off topic, the other option is to drive accross the border which will wipe out any savings and is the reason why some Canadians shop on US online sites.
