Audio Mystery...

When I want to listen to a TV station, but not have the TV monitor on (as in listening to cable music channels), the audio on my system quits a few seconds after I turn off the TV set. I haven't been able to discover which setting I need to change. The Home Theater audio system remains "ON" and set to the correct input. If I turn the monitor back on, the audio returns after a few seconds.

It's a simple system:

HPTC with Ceton InfiniiTV 4. Brighthouse CATV.
Sony Bravia DZ170 Home Theater System DVD player/audio amplifier.
Sony Bravia TV receiver/monitor.
La-Z-Boy recliner.

HTPC video feeds TV "HDMI-1."
HTPC audio feeds Home Theater System audio via fiber-optic Toslink.
Home Theater System video feeds TV "HDMI-2."

Sony support went through the usual settings menu stuff which didn't work. Now thaey having me change some cable configurations that will take a while.

You might want to be sure you have audio/video drivers up-to-date.
What are the specs of the HTPC is it?

I have had a similar setup with a Yamaha amp (now I'm HDMI for both audio & video) and the audio would stop for a few seconds then return. One thing for sure, I'm not a fan of those combo DVD player/AVR systems.

You might also consider adding a Gefen HDMI Detective+ such that the PC thinks the display is always on.

Probably need to disable any Bravia Sync settings on the TV and AVR.

Good idea on looking at the HDMI-CEC settings. I don't use that here and really am scared to try...

More information:

Of the applications on my HTPC, apparently this only occurs with live TV via the Ceton InfiiniTV4.

Audio still plays with the TV off while running YouTube, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center recorded TV, Windows Media Center music playlists.

I'm wondering if it's a function of the Ceton?

Problem solved. Much less hassle and I saved $100 mol:

1. Launch the desired music channel from the MC guide and hit the "Record" button.
2. Return to the MC menu, select "Recorded TV," and start playing the program that is recording.
3. Turn off the monitor and chill.

My bet is WMC is shutting down the video due to not seeing the display/HDCP/similar - the DVI detective is likely the fix

I had this problem with my ATI Graphics Card (ATI 5450). When I install the CCC 11.4 drivers it fixed the problem.
