Its the part where you say I can get close with settings from this thread that really makes it so hard to get off the fence! I definitely know that with the settings I got now its so night and day the improvement over the out of the box form. I just can't fathom whether theres enough improvement to be made over these settings to justify the $500. If the leap from where I am now is as great as the one I just took from the THX modes to Robnix's settings was similar to the leap that would be made after having Jeff/Chad do it, then it'd be a no brainer for me, but if all that's left to improve is in the delta levels that are almost impreceptible to the naked eye.... so hard to decide!

Anyway, appreciate the thoughts. Will have to keep mulling it over.

If you really like what you are seeing with Robnix' settings, then I'd probably say save your money. Some day if you happen to get the opportunity to see a calibrated set in person you may change your mind. Until then, enjoy your VT50!!

Just got my 65vt50 yesterday and am hosting a Super Bowl party. Game time is 3:30pm PT and it will be bright as we have multiple picture windows and LED can lights in the room. Any pointers on settings optimized for sports in a bright room?

Thanks in advance. These posts helped me both decide on this TV and get a smoking deal to boot. Amazing resource! And Go Niners!

As an example, I've tried the CNET settings as well as wmwilker's on my 55vt50. (All my viewing is done in a light-controlled room.) The CNEt settings are nice, with good color and a bit of pop, but perhaps a bit too much to the red, and a little too "polite". wmwilker's night settings give great saturation and deep blacks while keeping shadow detail, but blue is way oversaturated, to the point of distraction. Maybe I'm just seeing the full range of balanced color for the first time. What I do know is that I will finally have to have my set professionally calibrated.

The Cnet settings were done before the last firmware update. Any settings done before that update should have some extra red push to them. wmwilker has two sets of settings, one pre update and one post.

If I get my set calibrated, should I NOT do any updates that would render it out of whack?
As we are getting closer to the release of the 2013 models, are the updates going to just stop?

I would not update your TV after a calibration unless you absolutely have to.

I plan on a calibration in the summer, in time for football season

Also the tv has turned off twice on me for no reason, is this common? I have power saving turned off. If this persists will Panasonic cover the repair as I'm thinking about returning my BB warranty since I don't notice any IR what so ever. So I would like to use the money from the warranty towards a calibration.
Any thoughts on any of these issues is appreciated.

Just wanted to follow up on my jerky weird picture issue. It seems the problem was the default cable/sat HDMI input on my AVR. I went straight from the sat box to the tv and had no issues so I then plugged the sat box into the dvd input on the AVR and have not noticed the jerky weird picture thing, so I think I'm good to go. Thank God too cuz I was starting to think maybe it was just me or the tv was screwed and did not want to deal with the whole return thing.

Thanks for the help from everyone who tried.

They are not posted on this site. You have to go to the HDJ site and register for membership there to view his settings.

I just updated that forum with the VT50 settings. 2D and 3D are available. Always remember that these settings are not a substitute for a real calibration. Consider it "try before you buy". If you like the results, hire a professional calibrator of your choice to maximize your video performance.

I entered DNice's settings into my VT50 Custom modes. The 3D settings looked great on my panel, while the 2D settings had a slight red push. Not in a bad way mind you, the settings still looked pretty good compared to my Jeff Meier ISF settings. But as DNice and others will tell you, every panel is unique and it is no surprise that my Jeff Meier calibrated settings look best on mine.

Awesome, thanks D-Nice! You just made a lot of visitors of AVS and HDJ extremely happy.

If Chad hadn't calibrated mine a few weeks ago, I'd be using the settings right now.

Just got my 65vt50 a couple weeks ago. I have been running the break-in slides and just used D-Nice's calibration and it looks great. Thank you!! Now I just need to find someone to calibrate it in Colorado. So, if anyone can let me know of someone that I can use here in Colorado it would be much appreciated. I tried to Google the info, but what I found was out of business.

What part of Colorado?

I am trying to Autocal my Panasonic VT50 tv, and have the Control license for Calman5. According to the Spectracal site, and an email received from them, you use the patterns within the VT50 to do the calibration. I am using the HT Advanced menu, and I have no trouble connecting with the TV via wireless, and can get as far as seeing the ISF Day box at the bottom of the TV. I can change various settings in the box by going to the DDC panel, so I know the TV and Calman are communicating.
Question--How do you access the patterns in the television, which is what Spectracal is saying you need to do?
Anyone here have any insight as to how you access the Panny patterns within the TV?

Thanks for any help,
Wayne
