Scan-speak D3004/6600 tweeter has faint distortion sound, is it toast?

I have a pair of speakers with the D3004/6600 tweeter and one of them now has a faint distortion sound that sounds like white noise. Is it toast? I've had the speakers for a long time now but wondering if there is anything I can do or do I just have to bite the bullet and buy another tweeter? Crazy how this tweeter is still over $200.

Are you sure that it is the tweeter, and not the source or amp?

I switched the speakers around and the distortion is on the same speaker. Also tried other small speakers I have and they don't have the distortion. All was done with the same source and amp.

I'd swap the tweeters to eliminate all of the wiring, crossovers and connectors. If the known good one sounds bad in that cabinet you know the problem is elsewhere.
