Is anyone familiar with this company? They sell OC703 and rock wool at lower prices than the acoustic specialist stores, and with much lower shipping costs (at least if their estimator is correct). I'd like to find out if they're legit, though, before I order anything. Has anyone purchased materials through them?

Have you looked locally at commercial building suppliers? not big boxes. We can get all that locally without shipping in DC.

I'll call a few of the insulation/contracting suppliers in my area (DFW). I did some searching, and found a few names in my area. Most of the ones are only open during my normal work hours, though, so if I can get a couple of packs of 703 2-inch for a low price and low shipping cost (and I was surprised what the website quoted), it may be about break-even costwise and less hassle if I order online and have it delivered to my door.

shipping doesnt seem that inexpensive. Shipping one box of OC703 to OKC is $56. Four boxs is $220. They kind of get you by automaticly putting the minimum shipping cost and not asking for postal code right off.

There is a General Insulation in your area. They had great prices on everything they quoted for me. I wound up getting my Linacoustic from someone closer, but wish I had ordered everything from these guys. I'm not sure they carry OC703, but their Knauf insulation board is comparible and much cheaper than all the other quotes I received for OC703. They open pretty early so you might be able to swing by before work.

Their Dallas number is 214-688-7000.

Spaceman, can you recommend a place in the greater Houston area for OC703 or equivalent?

The best price I got was from General Insulation. Their equivalent to the OC703 is Knauf insulation board (formaldehyde free). 713-681-4700. Ferdinand DeLeon was my contact. Expect around $1/sf for 2" unfaced and $1.40/sf for 2" w/FSK (may vary depending on your quantities).

Insulating Products was another company I spoke with. They offer JM Insulshield IS300 board as the equivalent to OC703. It was .70/sf more than the Knauf. 281-897-8500. I got pricing via email from cory at insulating-products dot com.

FYI-If you are looking for Linacoustic or the equivalent, I also received some great pricing on Knauf Sonic XP from General Insulation. I opted not to get it from them since I found a source close by for a little cheaper. What I received was actually JM Duct Liner and not the JM Linacoustic RC I requested. It's very similar, but I it wasn't what I requested. It also stinks (literally) due to the binder and formaldehyde used in the manufacturing. I've been told the smell will dissipate, but if I had to do it again, I would chose the Knauf Sonic XP since it is formaldehyde free. The fact that both Knauf products seem to be priced fairly well is an added bonus.

Thanks. I stopped at the initial shipping estimator, and didn't go to the checkout, or did something else wrong. You're right - it was MUCH higher than I thought. And thank you for the number for General Insulation. I'd like to use the Knauf, just to get around the formaldehyde WAF. I'll give them a call.
