Yes, but I assumed that was what he was referring to when he mentioned it was in another episode. At that point, when she gave the specs, it wasn't a real amplifier.

Well, there's time for Charlie to get in another 4 months of acting lessons.

It was orignally an amplifier, but she was making it into an amplifier for the bomb not the pendant.

Monroe mentioned that he had the other scientist, the one Rachel stabbed with the screwdriver, also independently working on an amplifier.

Very sloppy writing for a mid-season action cliffhanger. Amongst all the other stuff already mentioned:

Why not take Major Tom's pistol and clip before you left his house? Seems they can only pick up dropped rifles but not pistols.

Why didn't the mom take 10 more seconds to grab the pendant and push the amplifier to the floor (hopefully breaking something) before fleeing the room at the power plant? All of a sudden she forgot the whole reason Monroe kept her a prisoner for all these years?

Would a spark from a magnesium stick actually start a fuse?

I like the fact that a show with this premise is actually on TV, but it's getting harder and harder to stick with it.

I agree. lets how it has time to mature and let the writing get much better.

What makes strong dynamic characters (that will last several seasons) is if your bad guys are actually behaving in an altruistic manner, and truly believe they are doing the right thing. Instead, every single person in the militia we meet acts like an *******. You even have one character who has been described as being actually clinically insane, and they put him in charge of finding and killing people. He's the definition of bad guy.
Seriously, the whole plot of the first half of season one is Monroe getting his hands on tanks and helicopters? Why, exactly? Not so he can finally unite the country and try to bring humankind back into some semblance of life... oh no. He wants to raise holy hell and murder people. Then you have Neville who says stupid stuff like "if you kill my wife, I will hunt you down and kill you". Right, because he doesn't deserve his wife getting killed based on the way he acted. It's the exact same scenario in reverse. The easy response from Miles should be "you killed my brother, now we're even". These characters do not act realistically at all.
I don't like my bad guys acting bad for the sake of being bad. They need to truly believe they're doing the right thing. We need to be able to sympathize with the bad guys while at the same time know that our heroes are on the right side.
This show is terrible.

I agree. They're just short of rubbing their hands together and going "Bwahahahahah!".

"A lot of people wanted to see how the world reacted when the power went out," Nemetz said. "They were disappointed that, basically, the story jumped forward and they didn't get to see the aftermath."

This is my main fault in the show, admittedly of many. The flashbacks are by far the most interesting part of the show. Seeing the ragtag band of rebellions take on the (equally silly Monroe Republic and the pendent nonsense insults my intelligence at every step. Add in terrible acting (Charlie!!). It just isn't interesting like it COULD be.

This show is hanging on by a thread and so many of the same faults as "V", "FlashForward", and "The Event".

They certainly have left a lot of hanging chads lying around. In the scene a few weeks ago, Grace and Randall (?) were looking at a screen tracking the pentents. Only one was active. I assume that one had to have been theirs, allowing their screens and other electronics to operate, or else they are in some shielded facility. If THAT is the case, then they need to explain the shielding. There are loose ends everywhere... Still, for reasons I can't fully explain, it's entertaining.

I've concluded that it's like watching a train wreck, you know you should move along but just stay and watch. wink.gif

There is nothing wrong with the quality of the video for the series. Problem will be with your local NBC affiliate. The audio MUST be Dolby Digital, as it is the ONLY audio format used for OTA, cable and DBS channels of network stations. Maybe you mean that it isn't DD5.1, instead of DD2.0. Again, this would be an issue with your local NBC affiliate.

Thanks. good to know. guess it is my local. processor picks it up as dolby prologic. funny most other shows come through as dolby digital and do not have the video flaws we are seeing. not bad enough to ruin the show for us at least
post #945 of 1301
The writers can accomplish that all on their own. biggrin.gif

Some of my first sci-fi movie experiences were watching '30's Flash Gordon serials reshown on tv in the 50's. My capacity to suspend disbelief is honed from an early age. Part of the guilty pleasure in this series is the schlock. Just consider the series "camp" and enjoy the ride.

There is a Dolby Digital 2.0, that will kick in ProLogic.....

So does NBC expect this show to survive after being off the air for so long?

The same way they expect a show to survive when it is off for the summer?

Not even the same thing. People expect shows to be off during the summer. Also, other networks rarely have competing shows air during the summer, meaning everything is in re-run.
It does not seem to affect cable networks that run 12 episodes and then wait 40 weeks for the next installments.

Usually those shows are really good so you can remember what has happened. I completely forgot this show existed until this thread got bumped. I watched it but I can't remember a thing about it.

Revolution was getting good ratings that stayed strong through its "Fall finale." That tells a network that a show's audience is waiting for its return. That's why they decided to slot it in as a Spring series, I think, in this crazy new TV world that has at least four seasons.

"Revolution" is a big, dumb action show with a sci-fi premise without the sci-fi intellectual content. People seem to like it. I think it has a chance to come back from a long hiatus, but yes, things do change over time, and audiences are fickle. The novelty may have worn off.
I presume that the ratings will soften for this show as it really isn't that good, but as long as NBC pampers it by airing it after ratings juggernaut The Voice, it will continue to get above average ratings for the network.
TV network execs seem to be stuck in antiquated models. They aren't that bright and mostly the sons and daughters of the rich. Better to have the first season complete rather than break it up. Dummies.

And that was probably their reasoning for holding it until The Voice returns. If they left it on from Jan-Mar, it could have collapsed without it's high rated lead in.

The showrunners have also stated that they wanted to be able to air the remaining episodes without any further breaks, so by waiting to resume the show until almost April, Revolution will be on every week until its season ends. They seemed more worried about having one or two-week breaks between episodes once the serialized story got going than they did about having a longer break between the first and second halves of the season.
