Box Design for DC Level 2 (Help)

I am planning on building a box for a dc level 2 12" on 250w RMS with the following t/s:

This is what I have so far... I want to know if having a port area that low will be that big of a problem? Also is it possible to have too much net volume? The recommended by manufacturer is 1.25cubic feet and as you can see my box would be way bigger than that... Sorry I have very little experience with theater setups.

you are good to go on port area. 3" x 18.5" is actually pretty large for a 12" driver.

however, it looks like your enclosure will be tuned for about 26hz. is that about what you are shooting for?

this is what you have designed. ignore the frequency response above about 60hz. that driver has an inductance a 7mh, so it is going to rolloff pretty fast

here is an alternative that might work a little better for you.

4 cubic feet net volume enclosure, instead of 6.11.

port that is 2" x 18.5" x 44" long.

that gives a tuning frequency of around 22hz, but more importantly it get rid of that big peak.

edit: the port velocity is also good in this one with 500 watts.

This is also posted on ca.com Not sure if he is intending to use this for home or car audio. I suspect the latter.

oh, i just assumed it was for a home application.

a car has much cabin gain, so a sealed sub would give a pretty flat response. 2.5 cubes would be good with that driver.

for maximizing spl, how about a 2.5 cubic foot enclosure tuned to 30hz. there isn't really anything below 30hz in music. a 2" x 15" x 30" port would work.

sealed in yellow, car ported in pink.

I appreciate all the help! This actually is for a home application and I think I am going to use your 1st design LTD. Thanks!

no worries. every now and then i see somebody who really tries to do their homework to create a good build. if i can help you get closer to your goal, great...

Honestly this I am not really trying to make the best build possible, I will be happy if it goes low and thats it. My previous setup was too loud to take full advantage of so I want to build a setup on the cheap that will go as low as possible and not have much output so as to not annoy other people.
