Trying the projection thing one more time?

First post: Have patience!! (I have searched and have seen many subjects similar to mine but would like some up to date responses!!)

I bought a complete system from a home theater store in Michigan in 2006 and was happy with it at the time. Basic INFOCUS 4805, Denon receiver, sub woofer, built in wall speakers, surround sound speakers, wireless remote, DVD player.... well the Infocus lasted maybe 4 years and blew up....so the room has sat there empty for a few years!! I WANT IT BACK!! I loved the movies in there.

Question...I'm stuck between the EPSON 8350 (or going pro 9350) or the Mitsubishi hc4000!! I love sports and movies, it's in a dark room, screen size is maxed at 85 diagonal.... (I have looked at 70-80 inchLCD...but way too much money)

How much better will these be than my old INFOCUS 4805 and any quieter? Now I probably need a new receiver too!! HDMI!!

Are u set on those two projectors? Even tho, a HD projector will give you a noticeable difference over an non HD projector.

85" Diagonal sounds like a perfect match for the Mits hc4000 (you may want a $50 ND filter to tame brightness for the first say 300-500 hours). The hc4000 is a very excellent projector in many ways, and cannot be beaten at its price point for PQ. The 8350 is a good projector as well, but for Sports and movies (and even gaming) the Mits hc4000 produces the better image.

The hc4000 will blow away the old Infocus.

I guess not the only two...but from what I have read in reviews I thought it was reduced to these two for me? Any other suggestions welcomed!!

I am leaning that way!! Every time I am ready to do it...someone says get the EPSON 8350 or better yet the 9350 (extra bulb, mount, extar year warranty, black box)? I think if I get the MIT 4000, pay for another bulb, add ayear warranty and by a good mount I will still be better off?

I just cant stand not knowing if DLP is the way to go...Everything I read says it has a better picture and better for motion? Then others scream the 3 chip LCD is better and cant tell the difference with the naked eye? I guess I cant go wrong with either, but my room is small 12 x 12 with 10 foot ceiling. It is perfect viewing room with black-out blinds.

It depends on your budget. But I'm sure you can find a mit 4000 for under $1000

I had the Mits HC1500 DLP and just upgraded to the Epson 8350, my comments to you are:

1) If placement is not an issue, given you can mount the HC4000 in the optimum position (centered on the screen at the preferred height) since there is no lens shift, then most people recommend the HC4000.

2) The 3-chip LCD image from the Epson 8350 is extremely good, once I got the focus adjusted correctly along with aligning the projector to the screen, the image is very crisp, as good or better than my old DLP unit (which of course was 720p).

3) For motion, I don't watch a lot of sports but the 8350 looks fine to me, I'm not even sure motion blur is even an issue with new LCD units. I read that lots of people warn others about LCD motion blur, but I have yet to read any recent posts about people complaining about it, at least not on the 8350.

4) One of my reasons for choosing the EPSON over the Mits was the color wheel noise that I experienced with my HC1500. From day one that DLP projector seemed noisy to me, even in ECO mode, while the new EPSON is whisper quiet. So given the price of the HC4000 and 8350 were similar, and PQ were also similar, I chose the projector that was the quietest as I'm a bit sensitive to noise.

5) Size of the EPSON unit was not an issue but I did need to purchase a new ceiling mount.

6) The unit being white instead of black was not an issue since once the lights are out who cares what color the projector is.

7) I would love to see what the HC4000 would look like in my HT just to compare, however, I'm very happy with my 8350.

I would look at the Viewsonic Pro 8200HD, which is only $800 also. Maybe coderguy can help out since he have the Viewsonic right now, i think. If you have a little interest in 3d, there are about 3 under 1500 that are decent. Also, the Acer 6500 is $800 and I'm sure that is good with games and motion. However, the Mit 4000 is still probably the best choice, just more expensive. What screen are you using?

I owned both the Mits and Pro8200, and the Mits is better than the Viewsonic (except VS is brighter with LESS RBE), but the reason I now own the Viewsonic and returned the Mits is due to RBE-sensitivity and brightness. For the majority of users (except those using big screens over 120" and those sensitive to RBE), I would recommend the Mits over the Pro8200.
