My 8 year old RPTV is running on empty so now I'm in the market for a new set. I've been doing plenty of reading on this forum and think I narrowed my choices to a Panasonic VT series or a Samsung E7000 series plasma.
When looking at these sets this weekend I notice what I call jagged edges that look like stair steps on lines that are at 45 degree angles. These were quite noticeable on graphic letters such as N and M.
I don't notice these on my current 1080i display, that could be due to the distance I sit from my display (57at 9'). I also noticed these on the LCD models that were also on display.
Is this something inherit to the technology, because of the pixels or improperly calibrated displays? I find it very ugly and distracting.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Please check my post here that refers to your question and see if it helps in a way:

as many would have claimed. It is certainly most noticeable for text and lines because the brain knows how it SHOULD look like. But most of the time we don't know how a picture eg flower should look like around the edges so we have no frame of reference and hence ignored
