Difference in release dates?

I have never been one to sit and watch movies. Kids are older now and I have put together a small home theater for the wife and myself.

I have been buying some blu ray movies and have noticed that some have different release dates. Some are only 2 months apart. Am I missing something? Sorry if this is a silly question but curiousity set in.

It might help to know a specific example, the site the information is coming from that list the release dates etc. As it stands, there is not enough information to provide an answer.

I figured it out. The one set has the DVD in full screen and had 2 blu rays with extras. The newer ones had the blu ray and DVD combo. Why would you want the movie to be in DVD and the extras on blu ray? The only thing I can see is to have full screen instead of wide.

It's hard to guess since you're haven't mentioned an example. For instance, in some cases Disney releases the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack first and then releases the DVD only a couple months later. This is an attempt to encourage consumers to buy the blu-ray (and spend extra $ on the combo pack).

It's highly unlikely there's a release with the feature on DVD only packaged together with only the extras on blu-ray. One of those two blu-rays is probably a blu-ray of the main feature.

Lots of BD movies come with a DVD too. This is a "value added" incentive. In general the higher number of discs included means more sales. Also a DVD is good in the following scenario. You have kids and you give them the DVD to "abuse" while you keep the BD.
