Yet Another What Reciver should I get thread. ($1k range)

If you want the best room correction, you are looking for Audyssey XT32 (other options, e.g. Anthem, are out of your price range). The two options in the near future for $1K or so would be the Onkyo 818 and (presumably, although we don't know for sure yet) the Denon 3313CI. There are currently no XT32 AVR's at the $1K price point, although the Denon 4311 is close with a some of the deals available right now (there is a 4311 deals thread). My choice would be the 3313 rather than the Onkyo for reliability reasons if nothing else. Anecdotal evidence on the internet indicates a far higher incidence of heat related failures with Onkyos, but YMMV. The Onkyos tend to be cheaper for a given feature set.

The current Marantz units tend to be restyled Denons with fewer features at higher prices. For instance the 7005 AVR was basically a restyled 3311 at a higher price.

If you drop back to Audyssey XT, a used 3311 or 3212 on closeout would be great choices. The Marantz brand has a great history, but these days it is more of a Ford/Mercury branding thing since both are owned by the same corporate parent (D&M Holdings).

The Anthem MRX-300 is within your range as it retails for $999. I own the MRX-500 and could not be happier. I did a lot of reading and research and came to the conclusion that the ARC room correction in the MRX recievers was the best available.

The receivers have gotten excellent reviews mostly due to the excellent room correction.

The 4311 has XT32 and the 3313 doesn't. Also the 4311 is a step up from the 33 series in a few areas. It has more channels and more power as it weights about 12 lbs more than the 3313. I know some people say the 4311 has better build quality as its built in Japan but I don’t have any kind of evidence to support or deny that. I have the 3311 now and I would upgrade to the 4311 if it was in my price range but I wouldn’t upgrade to the 3313 as it has no must have features for me. The 4311 I would upgrade to because of XT32. I don't need the extra channels either but its good to know I have them if I upgrade I guess.

If feature rich is what one wants they should look elsewhere. However if many of those features are not going to be used, the sound quality with ARC should definitely be a consideration.

I have an Anthem MRX300 as well, I love it, just using mine as a pre/pro. If you're looking for bells and whistles, look elsewhere.

Well, I’m personally looking at the Denon 4311, the Anthem MRX-300 and the Emotiva UMC-1.
Whatever unit I purchase, I will use them as a pre-pro.
If I didn’t get the UMC-1, I’d probably lean towards the 4311 because I currently have a Denon 3805 that is still running strong after about 6 years.

To be honest, I’m currently leaning towards the UMC-1. You’d need to buy a separate amp if you bought the UMC-1. I already have an amp. But for less than 1K, you could purchase the UMC-1 and also get the UPA-500 (5X80).

Since YOU are looking for a top of the line room correction system, I think I'd consider the Anthem due to ARC.

The real advantage of the 4311 is the ability to calibrate an integrate the second sub. Xt32 is something you'll need to experience to see the real advantage of a dual sub setup.

The discontinued stand alone XT32 (AS-EQ1) is still very hot in the used market for $600. If you factor that into the price of the 4311, the 4311 became a bargain that non other comes close - If you want/need XT32 correction that is.

Other EQ programs do a only do 3-4 corrections in the low frequency range.

I my setup, my sitting position changes significantly depend on the material. 3D - even on a 120 screen - needs to be up close to feel great. My sitting position for 3D is around 10-12 feet. For 2D, I move back around 17-20 feet. getting the same sub performance from 10-feet to 20 feet pretty much requires XT32 EQ.

I don 't think you are familiar with ARC. It can do whatever Audyssey versions ie. XT or XT32 in the MRX versions and to many people who have moved ARC, even better. In the pre/pro even more. Dual subs can also be calibrated. When you refer to other EQ programs I think you're referring to Yamaha's and Pioneer's. Would this be correct?
