What kind of profiles or settings in Handbrake?

What other tools -- MakeMKV, Handbrake?

How big are the rips? Anyone use AirPlay to AppleTV3 hooked up to HDTV?

This is like asking "Anyone watching Netflix on an Apple TV?"

Of course folks AirPlay to the aTV3 and rip blu-rays for the iPad 3--both devices have been on sale since March 16.

The main two tools, MakeMKV and Handbrake, are the same tools we've already been discussing for years--most of us transcode that .mkv file (or sometimes remux) into a smaller, more iTunes and iOS device friendly format--it's up to you to decide whether you do that specifically for the iPad 3 and only the iPad 3 or whether you go for something a little more universal. It all depends what else you have at home. Here's a previous thread on the subject which you posted to:

Here are good threads on 1080p Handbrake settings for the aTV3 and iPad 3:

That depends on the title, but the rip size is roughly the same as the size of the blu-ray. What you are probably really asking is how big are the transcodes--after you Handbrake the rips--and that depends as well, on the settings or preset that you choose.

Read the threads I linked to.

You should be a little more specific about what you're considering doing--whether you'll mainly be streaming files to your new iPad 3 or physically moving them over to the iPad 3...and what you plan to AirPlay to an aTV3.

Actually may experiment with both. Probably not an efficient use of storing a lot of movies on the iPad so around the home, streaming to aTV3 would be the main goal.

But for trips, like an upcoming 2-week trip, it would be great to have a couple of movies on board (though it would also be nice to just be able to use HBO Go out of the country but that's another topic).
