Mounting Flat Panel on staggered brick

Faced with a challenging situation. Due to the way our room is laid out, we have little choice but to mount our 55" VT30 on staggered brick:

Obviously I need to build some sort of frame (2x4s with 2x6 spanning width for flat panel mount perhaps), but looking for thoughts on how others might build the frame and brace it to the brick.

A few points worth mentioning:
- Soffit has duct work and isn't strong enough to brace alone
- will be drywalled afterwards

Cheers,
lajaro

If you can anchor a horizontal piece of Unistrut along the top course of brick and third row up from where you show the bottom of the TV, you could then attach a wood framed box shaped to accommodate the offset. Finish the face behind the TV with at least one layer of 3/4" plywood. The wood frame can be attached to the Unistrut with spring nuts and bolts, then covered with drywall or a finish grade of plywood.
A quality articulated mount from Chief or Peerless will give you the flexibility to pull the TV out for cabling and push back against the brick when finished, and give you some adjustment to assure clearing the row of brick that will appear as a lower border for the display, giving it a "built in" look.
Have you thought about how you are getting power and source cabling to the display?

Thanks. I'm trying to visualize this but think I have the gist of it.

The fireplace wall actually has a 35" W x 32" H passthrough up top where the staggered bricks are. Firebox side is to the Living Room; Dining room has solid brick face in a sort of L-shape.

For the power, the space below is crawl-space/ultility room. If we do this, we'd put in an electric firebox and I think we'd get an electrician to run a new circult up through the fireplace trap from the basement below. Alternative would be to run up the back of the fireplace (which would be framed) and through this awkward opening.
