The lasers are meant to last the life of the TV. A lamp is designed to be replaced every 3000-6000 hours, restoring the TV to like new condition.

According to Mitsubishi, the idea behind lasers is that the color quality will not decay over time. Here's an older video, but the laser theory is the same https://ieeetv.ieee.org/player/html/...or-their-money- LCDs and plasmas fade and skew color over time, so it's not just about lifespan, but the quality of the picture for that lifespan.

I've read through a couple of the Laservue threads. It's hard to tell if people are actually happy with them. I'm trying to decide on a new TV (have XBR2 70 with dieing optical block). Don't want to go smaller.

I've tried the big LCDs, but can't even though they are bright and colorful, I can't tolerate the blurring, haloing and juttering. Plasmas, which have awesome pictures that don't suffer from those problems, aren't readily affordable/available above 65".

I have viewed the 82" mits at a store, sat down and tried to adjust the display as best as I could, but it is one of the crappiest pictures I've ever seen on a TV. Literally can't understand why anyone would buy one. My 15 year old standard def Sony 60" looked better.

But, I've seen a few online reviews that seem to think the laservu is a good TV and has decent color, blacks and contrast. Not up to plasma standards, but pretty darn good. I don't have anywhere around here that has the laservue.

Just kind of venting ... but anyone care to share opinions on the laservue? Maybe someone who had an XBR2?

Once the 82" and 92" came out, I kind of lost interest in the LaserVue. I'm still happy with my calibrated 65", but when the time comes, I will probably upgrade to an 82". I've viewed my son's 73", so I know the 75" LaserVue just won't be big enough for me.

I saw both the 82" and 92" at an HH Gregg store, and really liked what I saw, even in less than optimum lighting. I was distracted by the glare on the 92", but it had a defective screen, which was pushed in so the the corners had some weird triangular reflections. If not for the corners, the picture was great, with no distractions from glare anywhere else on the screen. I don't know why you had trouble with the 82". Adjusted properly, these sets are awesome.

You should post your comparison question in the LaserVue thread, or even title a new thread "LaserVue vs XBR2" or some such thing.

Hello, I have the 2011 Laservue and could not be happier. I have had several of the samsung dlp sets. They were great but this is the best I have seen. This sets picture is perfect and I have seen the big lcd, led, and their picture dosent look like "film" quality like the mits. I keep buying dlp because im afraid anytime they could all be gone. Last thot, the 80 watts consumption is an added bonus and will become a bigger issue as time goes on.

To me, that's kind of surprising. I know everyone has different perspectives and considerations on what is good and not, but to me the 82740 is 3 times the screen area and the same price as some of the top LED models. While I agree the blacks are not as deep, there is nearly no other discernable negative difference in picture quality.

And on top of that, DLPs look much better on movies than do LCDs. LCDs are great for watching the news or reality TV, but for movies, they are not for me.

I understand what JMCecil is saying about "one of the crappiest pictures I've ever seen on a TV" especially at places like hhgreg because if you look at the Mitsubishi TVs compared to all the other LCD/Plasma in the place they look terrible. They keep the Mitsu tv's way in a corner and with a terrible signal going in so they look dull especially with all the stores bulbs shinning down on them, I thought the same thing but once I got the TV home and put good high res stuff on it it looks absolutely incredible so def don't judge any of the Mitsu TVs by how the store shows them because I think they have just as good or better pic quality then any of the LCD/Plasma out there in a darker room.

I had the 70" XBR2 and after it failed(had it for 5 years), got a 73837 last year which also failed(the warranty company gave me my money back). Bought the Laservue and the picture is extraordinary- I thought the Sony was great but the brightness, clarity, colors and deep, deep blacks is amazing. I have mine on a 4 season porch with windows all around. The refelctive screen is not that bad during the day because the picture is so bright. Got some curtains for nighttime viewing on the door from kitchen to porch and takes care of the problem. Love it.

Only issue is that I'm getting tiny bugs inside the TV at night. Had that issue with the other Mits but never the Sony. Annoying

Close the screen door?
