Help setting up M&Ks with a Sony ES

Fell into a great deal on 3 M&K S-150 THX, an M&K Mx-150M2 THX subwoofer an a couple of cs228 surrounds. However, even after reading the manuals, I'm not sure exactly hgow to configure my Sony DA3ES receiver with the M&K subwoofer. It's my understanding that since the Sony isn't THX rated, I should set the M&K subwoofer switches at Variable and 80 Hz 24 dB/OCTAVE.

Okay, I can do that. But I'm confused by M&K's reference to an HP-80 High-pass filter and the subwoofer HPE settings on the Sony. The "standard" setting seems to be 120 Hz, but should I set it to 80? And what about the LFE settings?

While I'm usually okay with setups, the combination of using/not using THX and such has my head swimming.

One other thing, the s-150 manual says they have a swith for THX and music, but mine don't. An early model or something?

Would appreciate it if one of you guys that understand this stuff could help me out.

Would like to make do with what I have, but might figure out how to get a THX rated amp/receiver or whatever if I have to.

Since you are setting the subwoofer to roll off any content above 80 Hz that is fed to it by the receiver output, you want the receiver set up to put out a full range of signals from 20 to 120 or 150 Hz and let the subwoofer handle the rolloff.

If the 120 Hz setting of the receiver is going to result in all frequencies BELOW 120 Hz being sent to the sub, that will work best.

The S150s are rated to go down to 77 Hz, and the sub will roll off anything above 80 Hz, so that is how it is supposed to work.
