2012 Shootout. - Page 2

And why all the desperate paranoia about blocking links to value electronics? They used to be a sponsor here...not like they are a rival forum...

Is this thing over yet? Anyone care to share results?

Were there any comments of substance regarding the Samsung ES8000 LED set?? I have one on order to complement my VT50. I watched until 6:30 (end of Samsung representative's presentation) but then my wife MADE me go out for dinner and I only got back just in time to see the wrap-up . When are the clips to be up on YouTube?

Look at the order of presentation: sharp, samsung, panasonic

I am also curious as what will be the reference panel. Will it be the PRO-141FD that they had there last year or will it be the Elite LCD? I am also curious as is everyone else to see how the VT50 performs.

Reference tv will be the pioneer elite as always

Did they have a 500M or 101FD, or just a 60" model?

However, they can be fixed with software update.

Like they fixed the cyan issue? Oh, wait...

Opinions by the Calibrators are nice, but lets see there settings and why they did what they did with there settings.

Lost me after the first 2 hours. That thing just dragged on beyond belief.

Very disappointed as I've been looking forward to it for quite a while.

I thought I was in AV. Maybe I'm wrong.

How long did the total podcast last?

Yeah, Sharp gets to lead off and when it cam to questions nobody asked this and worse was when they were going through the test colors it was like 2 minutes on all the color screens and then cyan comes on and is off within 20 seconds. Then when they get to the test results for each tv I was shocked to here them call out the Elite for having "this known problem with these sets that has not been corrected." I watched most the event and really disappointed as this used to be a unbiased event and it really was a Sharp vs Panny VT50 event with organizers letting Sharp go first and then D-Nice getting to really talk up the VT50 during testing. Which I get they are the class of the competition but how do all the top calibrators talk up the HX929 and call it the class of the LCD/LED format yet the organizers had the audacity to say it was not good enough to make the battle? And then worse was the Panny LCD was terrible and everyone watching the last feed commented on how could it even be up there especialy on blacks since it was gray and just looked pitiful. So Sharp got what they wanted again and pushed out the only tv to give the Elite a better non-cyan issue LED. So today will come down to will the Elite cyan issue tv win or will the VT50, which showed IR problems last night, win. Should be a good fight but seems like given the sets chosen this is they way it would be from the beginning.

Read the initial post and you'll know answer to your first question.

Haha.. I didnt last that long, after the manufacturer's intro I zoned out!

I would flip back every so often to see/hear what was going on, but for us non-geeky people it was like watching paint dry!
Next time ill wait for the 5 min. synopsis, or maybe pop a couple of Ritalin!

Oops next time I'll have to use multiquote, but just saw this and am too lazy to fettle on my iPhone!

But very good point! The panny LCD looked like sh@@$1. I think it's safe to say that they have a ways to go (check out the DT review).
Not sure how that set made the cut,but not Sony. They didn't really go into too much detail on why, unless I missed that during one of my zone outs.

Great shootout last night, for those who couldn't be there in person, catch it today on live stream.
To me, the shootout lost all credibility by a) allowing the panny lcd over the sony and b) not mentioning the cyan issue to the sharp rep!
Imo there should have been HX850 instead of that crappy panny. Im sure it destroys ES8000 too.

No Kidding! That panasonic lcd looked awful! There's no way the 929 should have been excluded from from the list. While it has it's shortcomings as all displays do, reviews have been very positive overall. Even the 850 would have been a better alternative than that panasonic lcd. Very Strange!

Yeah, from the early reviews the 850 looks very nice! Really makes you scratch your head! Like they said before the shootout, the sony just can't compete with models we have on display.
