FWIW, I doubt if a theatrical 3D release would make enough $$$ to justify the conversion costs.
Then again, I am not sure what those costs may be....
IMO, the bottom line is this: are there enough fans of the movie willing to pay the $$$ and spend the time going to a 3D Theater presentation
I am not so sure, primarily because the movie itself is 23 years old and that is almost an eternity in the public's zeitgeist.
In my mind, there is no question JC would have filmed it in 3D, if the tech had existed at the time.
Much of the imagery would, IMO, lend itself naturally to being great 3D material.
