Need some help/advice regarding the placement of speakers

My sister is building a new house and she lives about 2 1/2 hours away from me, but she asks me for advice regarding the tech related stuff pertaining to her home. She wanted to put in a 5.1 system in the front family room using in-wall/in-ceiling speakers to keep a clean look.

I saw her this weekend and we were looking over the plans and I noticed that there was a pitch to the ceiling and I thought, in order to do that center speaker, they would have to make a small box or something in the center for it to keep it in the middle, and then we would just have to adjust the timing delay on the receiver for the distance difference between the center speaker and the left and right.

Today she went to check on the progress and noticed they put the speaker mounts in and knew it didn't look right based on what we had discussed on Friday, so she sent me a couple pictures. Take a look and I would really appreciate your input or suggestions on what we should do, all I know is that the way the front stage is set up will not work. The center speaker placement is horrible and the whole front stage is too close to the wall.

What speakers is she using?

The front three, L/C/R, should not be in-ceiling, but in-wall at ear and/or screen height. Putting them all in the ceiling will result in a disconcordance between what is seen and what is heard.

While I agree in principal, I see furring strips on the concrete walls. If the plan is to insulate with Styrofoam, and then drywall over the furring strips, there are no in-walls that are shallow enough to fit in the 3/4" space provided, (at least none that I'm aware of.)

Right. Too bad but, at this point, perhaps a false wall is possible with the L/C/R behind.

I have viewed movies at one of the screening rooms at Sony in Manhattan that had only in-ceiling speakers and, although picture was excellent and the speakers were inherently of high quality, the overall experience was annoying and dispiriting. Only the occasional fly-overs seemed right as on-screen characters had their voices displaced.

I too go for a false wall, this will open up the possibility of hidding, or at least flush-mount the TV also! Time to think where the AV equipment gonna go.

She is using the Klipsch speakers, she's not an audiophile, she is just looking for something that will be sufficient and clean looking, but I am thinking she needs to just do away with the front 3 and go with a set of floor standing speakers and a nice center channel instead of this. I just know this isn't going to work and it's going to sound terrible and the cost just doesn't warrant what they are doing here. The rears are fine I think, worst case if they refuse to refund the cost, I will just have them move 2 of those front speakers back for a 7.1 or 7.2 setup for her.
