Snaking Advice

I ran into a problem snaking wires through conduit and could use some advice.

I installed conduit (smurf tubing) throughout the theater before drywall. All of the snaking went fine except for one conduit. I hit the corner and the fish just stops. No amount of pushing it from either end will get through the bend. Must have made it to sharp of a bend.

So any thoughts? I'm using steel fish tape. Would switching to fiberglass fish tape like this help?

I think steel tape is more flexible than fiberglass. Have you tried jiggling/moving the snake once it hits the obstruction? That worked for me.

You could also try the balloon tied to the end of a string trick (and try to suck from one end of the conduit using a vacuum). That never worked for me, but others said it works well.

Did you try the vacuum / shop vac yet?

Tie a very light string to a plastic bag and feed it into the conduit and the use the shop vac to pull it through, once the string is through tie the end to your cable and there you go. For future use leave a string hanging from both ends of the conduit.

String tied to a small piece of foam rubber or chunk of packing material (buns) probably works better than a plastic bag as it may not get hung up as easily. But yes, the shop vac trick is absolutely the way to go. And use this method first - way easier than snaking!

Cool. Never thought of a shop vac. Will definitely try it. Thanks!

I left string in after I snaked the wire/cable in the other conduits for future pulls. Should have thought of doing that upfront.
