Need help deciding on CD player

Rotel RCD 951 or Onkyo DX-C390? If it was new, the Rotel would be the choice hands down. Onkyo is newer technology, which one would be the best? Both about the same price on Ebay. I would be running it through NAD 7020.

Thanks,

The Onkyo is a 6-disk changer. That provides convenience if you want to listen to several hours of music, but has more mechanical things to go wrong with it.

Even though it's a decade old, the Rotel might be more appropriate if you enjoy listening critically to a single CD at a time.

Considering how different they are, there's no one right answer.

Make sure you'll be able to get a full refund if either dies in the first month.

Thanks for the reply!

I would prefer a single disk player but it seems they don't hardly make those anymore. I know the Onkyo is not high end, but i have had some of their equipment before and it was a bargain for the price. Trying to get the best bang for the buck in the under $200 range.

Most modern, inexpensive, single-disc CD players have "Blu-ray" written on the outside Unfortunately, finding inexpensive ones which also have analog outputs (let alone quality analog outputs) could be a problem.

Onkyo has several current-generation changers that can play CDs, which seem to be reasonably inexpensive, though. e.g. their DXC390 6 disc CD player as sold by Amazon is only slightly more than half your budget. You might want to consider something like that, since you'd get a full manufacturer's warranty, too.

A thought: if your computer (laptop or otherwise) has a CD or DVD drive, you might consider using that. Most have analog outputs built into the motherboard. Stereo-pin-jack-to-RCA adapters are readily available at local electronics stores for a lot less than the cost of a separate CD player.

Yes, i have the computer system with the outputs.

I am trying to build a semi-vintage rack system that is separate from my home theater system. Need a decent CD player to go with a NAD 7020 and ARXB 77 Turntable.

In that case, have you considered getting a NAD CD player? There seem to be quite a few on ebay, most in your price range. Sorry, I have no experience with them, so can't help with choosing one over another.
