Where do I mount the darn projector and screen?

Hello,

I'm finishing my basement, and I've pretty much decided on the Optoma HD33.

I've also ordered a 106" 16:9 electric screen. Based on the calculators, looks like I can mount it around 13'10" back, to 11'6".

I'm fine with that. I think I'll also be getting a mount from costco, which has a 5" arm. The question is, at what height should I put the screen? Should I put it at ceiling height? (Around 7'6")

I am putting a small bulkhead behind the screen. I could increase the size of the bulkhead so the screen mounts to the bottom of the bulkhead. (The bulkhead will be about 8" height wise) If I mounted the screen to the bottom of it, that'd put the top of the screen at about 6'10" relative to the floor.

What's my best option? I don't think I'll have room for tiered seating, so there will only be one couch, on the floor.

I have not got the mount yet, so if I need one with a longer 'arm' I could do that.

Thanks!

Bump!

Bunch of people are coming over and we are going to try to get up as much dry wall as possible. I need to frame this bulkhead in. Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks!

You'll get better results using Coderguy's calculator. Lens offset for this projector is 8.3 inches.

How much black drop does your screen have? Is it adjustable? For that screen size the center of your lens needs to be ~8.5" above the viewing area of the screen. Since your projector does not have lens shift I would get a mount the can move up/down and left/right. Many mounts only tilt, yaw and rotate which will make it tougher to dial in perfectly. If your screen can adjust the amount of black drop you can use that for up/down adjustability.

You have to do some figuring to see where they both should be mounted properly.

Every screen I know of has some black border at the top. If your ceiling is 7 6", then probably you should mount the screen as high as it will go, and then mount the projector where it needs to be to hit the screen there. Most people don't want their screen low.
