Instant e-mail not working?

I just noticed tonight that I haven't been getting any e-mail regarding postings in threads I am subscribed to. If one doesn't visit in a while, notifications will stop until one visits again.

Well, tonight I started a new thread and had visiited another, which gets constant postings, and yet, when postings were done to these two threads, nothing, not one single e-mail notification.

So I went ot look at my configuration and all of my subscriptions are marked as instant and the default for posting in threads, or creating new ones, is to get instant e-mail.

Is anyone else having this problem? I have no idea whhy it has stopped and what it takes to get it going again.

And yes, my e-mail is working (I have my own Unix server and get my e-mail directly to my domain on this Unix server).

It seems to be mostly working for me. Messaging does seem inconsistent, though. Sometimes I get multiple updates from a particular thread without having visited the forum in between them. I seem to get duplicated messages sometimes, too, although maybe they're messages that the author made minor edits to. I've found that the most reliable way to catch up on subscribed threads is to visit the UserCP page after reading a message from one of the emailed notices.

I got mine this morning. When they don't go out we're usually flooded with reports about it. Maybe they're getting filtered by your email provider?

As I said in my initial posting, I do not have an ISP handling my e-mail. It all comes directly to my server via the SMTP protocol from whomever is sending the e-mail to me.

If you do a MX record lookup for vidiot.com, you'll see that it goes to vidiot.com.

There have been zaero configuration changes with my e-mail handler (exim, not sendmail).

Has the forum's e-mail interface been updated to include any kind of new security such that I am refusing the e-mail because of recent changes on the forum's end?

Maybe, as a moderator, you can try sending me e-mail from the forum's server to see if I get it or you get it bounced back to you.

Yes, I know they've been making changes (including email servers) and probably will make more as we prepare for the site upgrade coming very soon.

Is there an overall setting in my profile that I didn't see that turns off getting e-mail, that somehow got changed (not by me)?

Try switching to something like gmail for a day or two to narrow the issue down. Everyone else seems to be getting theirs fine.

OK, the e-mail address has been changed. I thought I was totally locked out and then discovered that the e-mail change needed verification.

What happens if the e-mail doesn't get verified? Does it revert after a certain period of time? Otherwise the user it totally locked out, unable to even send private messages to get help.

There's always a "Contact Us" link on every page of AVS Forum. No one is ever locked out from help even if logged out.

There are notices sitting in my gmail account. I'll let that run for a few days and then switch it back and see what happens.

Remember when you switch back you MAY NOT get the verify notice if your mail is not received. Then you will need to contact us. (Just a heads up.)

That is why I asked about it defaulting back after a period of time. If it doesn't do that, it should.

We know that e-mail from the forum's server works, as the test support e-mail made it to my server just fine.

FYI, after the changeover to the new forum, I changed back to my "real" e-mail and all is well.
