No sound from left channel

I have been having trouble with my sound system for a while now. The left channel will not put out any sound sound til I go into the setup menu and crank up the +db for that channel to the max. Then I'll start to get a pop and crackle sound and the speaker will return to normal.

I have swapped out the left speaker with other speakers and the problem still occurs. I have changed the speaker wire and still have that problem.

I was thinking it is the receiver, the system is the Onkyo HTiB S770, that's having the problem. I just wanted to hear some other thoughts before I bought a new receiver.

The new receiver I was thinking of replacing it with would be the Denon 1612.

Thanks.

If you have already swapped speakers, what happens if you change sources, or play am or fm radio, or hook the left & right up to the B channel? Does it still do the same?

I have tried multiple sources, TV, PS3 and test tone. And still the same thing

Haven't tried using channel B though.

Sounds like it's the receiver at this point. If you like the receiver it might me worth getting a repair quote to see if it's cheaper than a replacement.

The 1612 sounds like a good idea.

The receiver is probably like 10 years old at this point. Plus I would like to upgrade to new codecs and HDMI switching. So I think it'll be better to upgrade.
