Sony and Samsung to Enforce 'Minimum Price Points'

This is just a heads up. Sony announced awhile ago they were moving toward this 'minimum price' policy due to online retailers undercutting their price points, but it appears that Samsung is getting on borad too.

Bad news for consumers and those of us who like to haggle for the best prices. Looks like there will only be one price point for Samsungs and Sonys now.

I guess Sony and Samsung will lose some sale. I don't know about Samsung but can Sony afford to be like that? Isn't Sony in trouble financially?

It's interesting that both Sony and Sharp chose to pursue a strategy that's counterproductive to boosting their sales volume.

I guess they aim to be high-end, low volume brand rather than mass market brand.

Currently Sharp is enforcing the UPP (minimum price) only for the 90 inch.

Which tv has a substantial markup? The 90"? You're friend was incorrect on his pricing and I currently know exactly what the pricing is as well and can also confirm that your friend was mistaken.

I had been watching for the price of the Sony XBR55HX929 and Samsung 8000-series on Amazon for the price to go down so I could buy one for my living room and one for my theater room. I guess I now know why the prices went way up and haven't come back down. I'm not sure what I will do now. The Sony is about a thousand more than it was and the Samsung is about $600 more. I'm not paying that much. I guess I waited too long, but neither Sony or Samsung is going to benefit. Hopefully this will hurt their TV sales and will drive people to LG and Sony and Samsung eventually cave.

Samsung does sometimes have a dealer-wide sale on one or more of their high end models.
I see this week for July 4th sales, many national dealers have the Samsung UN55ES7100 model at a lower sale price for example.
But no one dealer seems to have a special sale price, they all drop for the sale price probably set by Samsung.
