new projector owner confused about the diff b/t vga and hdmi connections

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your help to someone completely ignorant of anything A/V. --i got an LG Hxg301 today. it comes with a vga cable but no adapter for the mini dvi port on my 2007 macbook. so i need either a mini dvi/vga adapter or a mini dvi to HDMI adapter and im confused about which i should be getting. the manual only mentions connecting via a vga cable. no mention of connecting a computer via HDMI. are computers not capable of displaying HDMI content? is that the reason? but it seems that people do connect their macbooks via HDMI cables to projectors and tv's. any clarification at all will be much appreciated.

You should use the HDMI port and buy a DVI/HDMI adapter. HDMI is a digital input that normally offers the better picture quality.

VGA must be used for those notebooks that do not offer a digital video output.

You can use which ever one you want really, depending on the projector you should be able to get the same resolutions, only difference is HDMI brings the sound with it, but since you have Mini-DVI that doesn't matter for your setup. Overall I would suggest HDMI simply because its easier.

VGA is an analog signal, HDMI is digital.
