Orb Audio?

She lets you have a 15" sub but you are limited to satellite speakers?

Anyway I believe there is an Orb owners thread here or at blu-ray.com forums.

There are of course other satellite speakers to choose from.

Since you liked your previous Energy speakers, would you be interested in the V-Mini?

It's only 7.48" (height) x 4.72" (width) x 5.51" (depth)--takes about as much space as the Orb speakers--and should provide a relatively full sound for its size (within its limits). In a room the size of yours, though, you may want something bigger. How big would you be willing to go?

I had a set of Orbs as I was curious to how they sounded as well. To be honest I believe they were ok but only for certain applications such as a small room or for a computer set up. For your purpose I don't think you are going to like them as when I tried them out as side surrounds they just didn't work out. I have a room size of 15x25 w/ 9ft ceiling but also with an open area in the back portion to the kitchen.

For the center what size of area is on the mantel to are looking at ?

The Orbs are just too weak and thin sounding to be very good for anything but near field listening. I don't think they've had much in the way of updates for at least 6-8 years now, so they aren't even very current. For a room the size of yours it would probably be better to get something more substantial.

Keep in mind, that Orb speakers are assembled in the USA by skilled workmen.

ropscot, perhaps you could get away with something like these Mirage speakers. More substantial than the Orbs but still not overtly speaker box looking either. Something like a chiseled wood block sculpture which can almost be passed off as just another room decorative accessory. Available in black or rosewood.

I use 2 orbs for my front height speakers on my 9.2 setup. I picked for size and cost, and turned out to work well for this unique effect

If you want to stick with smaller speakers a few worth considering are:

What do you guys think about Klipsch Synergy B-20s? I am in a similar boat as the OP, WAF is a huge part of the equation, and NO subwoofer. The setup will be in wife's office, so she can listen to her stuff while she works.

You might also include the Focal Dome. I am looking for a small 2 or 3.0 or 3.1 set-up for my bedroom. I want small footprint and very good sound.

If you google "Focal Dome review" almost every review I can find is excellent.

You can buy them in pairs or in a 5.1 config.

I am enjoying a cup of coffee and doing some last minute research but I think I am going to go ahead and order and try these as I love Focal speakers and they wouldn't put out crap..(there is a 30 day return policy so that's good)

The stands look great as well if you want to stand mount them.

Yea, unfortunately that's the problem with Paradigm; you pretty much have to go through a dealer. I imagine they're losing a ton of busines that way -- including mine -- but it seems Paradigm is stubbornly going to stick with that business model. To find a local dealer check out this link.

The OMD 5s would be tough to beat for what you are looking for. You could probably use the C1 center as well.

Orb makes a good speaker, but I wouldn't recommend them in your room. There are alternatives that folks have already mentioned that will give better sound and more bang for buck. I personally like the OMD5s someone mentioned above. They sound excellent and my wife loved how they look.

It isn't absolutely vital to match your in-ceilings to your front speakers, but I believe Mirage does make an in-ceiling called Omnican or something.
