I don't think you need the Xonar card to achieve this...

Your GT430 video card can do this using the same HDMI connection you're currently using for video to the AVR...

In your sound player application, you only need to select (probably direct sound) your GT card as the default audio device and that should be it...

Return it; pronto!
As pointed out above, your 430 is enough for audio bitstreaming.

To expand on it; video chipsets nowadays have a built-in audio controller that will allow you to send out the HD audio over the video card's HDMI port. All you need is the drivers and the right software player.

The HDAV will only work with TMT.

I thought the HDAV came with TMT2, upgradeable to TMT3 through the Asus website.

Wasn't it the Auzentech that came with PDVD?

I have the HDAV and love it since it came with TMT3. By using Anydvd, TMT3 has played every BR disc and rip I have tried.

Bitstreaming couldn't be easier than using the Xonar.

What is the sound output device? I choose spdif passthrough. Getting TrueHD and DTS-HD MA to my receiver works without issue under Win7, XP, and Vista.

damnit, hopefully they will take it back, jeez im a dumbass,so its virtually worthless for what i want to do?
on a side note what would produce better sound quality for what i listen to hdmi or spdif?
thanks guys
also even though i realise mp3 isnt the best choice of music format,am hdmi or spdif has got to better than the headph jack to rca in the receiver right?

Not worthless; just real expensive for something that can be achieved with a $20 video card.

With MP3 sources, the connection type is not going to make a difference.

It's not worthless. It is a great card, it comes with TMT3 which would have cost around $75 if you bought it separately, and it is extremely easy to get bitstreaming under all versions of Windows.

If you were to get a dac and feed the dac's analog output to your receiver, your receiver would have to re-digitize the signal in order to apply equalization which defeats the function of the dac.

Flac is lossless compression but MP3 is lossy compression. Nothing you can do or add will replace the lost data when converting from a lossless format to MP3.
